Why do you still play defiance?
Once you beat this game there is NO REASON to keep playing.

Grinding for key codes / items are pointless because from level 1-5000 there is NO DIFFERENCE in weapons / equipment aside from synergy mod slots and even then they are pointless because they are so common.

PVP is pointless its the same 3 maps over and over. PVE is pointless the co-op dungeons NEVER CHANGE. Arkfalls are BORING because there are ONLY 3 MAJOR TYPES.

Clans are IRRELEVANT because of the above. Socialization is NOT IMPLEMENTED unless your standing two feet away from someone.

Why do you play when there is no reason to keep playing?

In before fanboy spam :p Im here for the forums. Classy.

Well and the hopes that trion will do a 180 and change things.. such as.. actually doing arkfalls instead of lol asteroids.

Other than that, Ive already taken off the rose colored glasses and saw the game for what it was.. and what it needs to be. Im with you op, but im still hoping.

I still play because this is the best Xbox game ever made. Plus there will be lots of content to come so for the time I do my daily contracts and build up my salvage for when the new weapons and mods come out.

The same reason I play any game... I enjoy playing. In this game, I enjoy running around and shooting things.

I'm EGO 1863 and still enjoy running around shooting things, probably because I change my builds and guns a lot. The gameplay feels a LOT different with a sawed-off and Blur than it does with a sniper rifle and Cloak than it does with SAW and Overcharge than it does with pistol and Decoy.

PVP is pointless its the same TWO maps over and over. PVE is pointless the co-op dungeons NEVER CHANGE. Arkfalls are BORING because there are ONLY FOUR MAJOR TYPES.

Fixed. Just in case you need this post for a job interview or something. Though you may want to add "To whom it may concern," at the start. It's more professional. Also, saying something louder (capslock) and more times does not make a point more valid.

While I would give this game a 6/10 it still remains an addictive time-sink. If this game had no Pursuits I would have probably left after release week. Still, it's holding me over until other MMO's are released.

If you don't want to play, then stop.

Personally, I'm still enjoying the game---that's why I'm still playing...

Just to point out any FTP MMO is like a deck of cards. once bought you can play as much or as little as you want; also like said game of cards it's just a decent way to kill time with friends.

More specific. What 1st/3rd person shooter isn't a 'madden clone' ala they are pretty much all the same except updated gfx. Defiance is a decent time killer with friends with a little extra time on their hands. Leave or stay makes no difference really. But I got done with the main and side quests today and I started playing April 111th.

I play to have fun at anything. Being free and on a far less expencive piece of equipment then my former PC (RIP dude) I'm enjoying playing the game on a system with a mere 500 megs of ram to play with. I take it for what it is. Not for what it is not.

I play because I have fun.

Pursuit/Goal hunting, contracts, weapon collection/leveling (I want an orange of my favorite type of each weapon, i've got 7 so far but none of them are ideal xD)..Generally shooting everything ever..

Competitive is actually quite enjoyable to some people even with the small selection of maps and only two game types. (Soon to be more of both) Some people only need to win to enjoy a deathmatch game type, like my best friend that frequently goes 20/1. I still enjoy it even though i'm not always at the top,but to each his or her own. I had an absolute blast in a shadow war last night with a Cerberus, wrecking dozens of players failing to approach a point repeatedly.. xD

    Key word: Fun

Wish more people were having it. I would rate this game pretty high if it was purely based on how much i'm enjoying my time playing it.

What are you trying to accomplish here?

I enjoy driving around doing emergencies and arkfalls. Its fast paced and I get to kill things constantly. There are plenty of pursuits that are not bugged to work towards. Grouping up with friends or clan mates and doing dailies, weeklies, or just helping them with whatever they are working on. There are plenty of reasons for me to keep playing, main reason being that I'm still having fun.

    um because its fun?
I gotta remind people this is a game. Play it in your spare time, not all your time. Play it because it's fun. That's really what a game is all about - fun, entertainment, and relaxation with a bit of challenge. If you approach it with that attitude, despite its flaws and bugs, its a super fun game and the positives (for me anyways) far outweigh the negatives.

I don't know how people say they "beat the game," because that would mean you did every main mission, episode mission, side mission, every achievement, co-op, multiplayer, and shadow war. The achievements, mulitplayer maps, and shadow wars are ongoing too as there will always be more player to combat and more achievements to achieve. Now if its true that you have done ALL of that, I am kind of scared for what that means for your life and sort of pity you, sorry. If you haven't done all of that, but feel like your beat the game because you just like to race through content till you get bored and move onto a new game that's a little more understandable. In that case you haven't beat the game, but we'll let you think you did and say bye bye.

For my own part, I've got plenty of gripes and complaints about things in Defiance that are broken, or bugged, or need improvement, but by and large it never stops me from logging in for a couple hours a night and having loads of fun with my friends. I am about EGO 1400 and still have many achievements and side quests to do. Co-ops and PvP is fun. Arkfalls are just easy, not very exciting. Sometimes I have the most fun just roaming the countryside fighting whatever I come across, doing emergencies, or climbing mountains with my quad. If you've got a good friend to share the experience with it helps a lot.

Have been playing it less than I did near release, but it is still fun to play for a few hours. Been farming Sutro Tower while grinding weapon skill. Once I get most weapon skills maxed out, which by then I should be at least EGO 4k and have my smexy Ark Predator, if the game hasn't gotten a whole lot better I'll probably move on.

i just dont understand how you "force" yourself to keep going... pre 1k its actually a decent game because you continually progress, you feel like your weapons are getting better, you constantly are crawling up that mountain... but after 1k ego its flat out too much "work" for such little reward...

sure you can run around knocking out pursuits... but how can you force yourself to do the same thing over and over and still consider that fun? i mean literally... the same thing... all fights with enemys are the same... they sit still and shoot or crawl after you... occassionally roll out of the way, throw a grenade, or raise up in the air to smash the ground...

There isnt a single creature or boss in this game outside nim with an arsenal of more than 5 capabilitys ( and by that i mean they do 5 things outside standing still ) that includes rolling, throwing a grenade, shooting a gun

even nim, each phase has tops 3 actions he can take... its just borring...

if you find this fun after 1k i really would love to know what your life outside of games is like... not being judgemental but i dont see how the same repetition is fun with nothing changing,... i mean give me 1 difference between a weapon i get at 500 ego as opposed to 5k ego... there is no difference...

some can argue its more about skill than gear... and my response to that would be to ask for an address so i can just beat their ***... any game with gear in it, is gear based... if its not, its a failed game... sounds alot like defiance to me

Its both actually. Its skill based, but they tried to have some kind of gear treadmill.. albeit they made it painfully hard to get the oranges for some. and based it off of a slot machine.

The sad part of the "skill based" is that it doesn't take much, its headshots.. or "point" shots.. and that's about it.. there are no tactics.. the enemies don't try and flank you actively. At least.. not much. Its just.. stale. They stand and shoot at you at the most part unless they cant see you.

No, but im with you, its currently.. at 1877 ego. boring as hell. No real point to progressing.. why even bother?

    • The game is fun
    • I'm not bored of it
    • I haven't completed the main story
    • I haven't completed the side quests
    • I haven't done the majority of the time trials, hotshots and rampages.
    • I enjoy the show
    • I love the lore of Defiance
    • I want to collect weapons
    • I'd like to do the majority of the pursuits
    • I play with a clan/friends
    • I've paid for it?
    • There's no subscription fee so I can come back to it whenever I like
    • I want to see the way it develops through weekly missions and DLC
    • I want to see what new features/content/improvements they make
    • It's a good game
    • You suck stop whining
    • Off to play some more Defiance!

Again i met some cool people on the forums, played with them. That's how DeFi is still fun to me. ;]. Btw you kidn of are insulting with that. What does ones life have to do with how they enjoy a game? Some people like defiance, some people like to complain about defiance. Some people like to lick the icing off an oreo and throw away the cookie part. Who cares what or why people do what they do. Everyone is different. Hell i enjoy playing with my friends rather in a group or over the net. Doesn't matter, so long as i got my friends and having fun.

See games are about this weird thing, called "Fun". It's really a strange feeling to most people in the video game community now-a-days. Lately it's all about "How many hours do i get out of this game!?" or "Does this game have this" or "that". I remember when games were fun, enjoying them was fun. You can find fun things to do in broken games. DeFi is broken, i have fun in it. Atleast it is broken in MY OWN OPINION. Still fun though. Keyword for everyone. Fun. Not having it? Leave. Problem solved? Yes. ;]

I don't have to force myself to do anything, because I want to. No gun to my head. I wouldn't continue to play a game i'm not enjoying and that's all that comes down to. I can't platinum most games on my PS3 because a lot of them do require me to play to the point of disliking the game to do so, but hundreds if not thousands of people trophy hunt like mad. You're better off questioning their reasons for torturing themselves than mine. All of that being said though, I did platinum the Assassins Creed series because I just had that much fun playing it. It's the same kinda thing here.

Aren't all shooting games nearly exactly what you just described if you're going to boil it down to a basic concept? That's a dull way to look at a game. The same could be argued with MMORPGs. Kill, loot, kill, loot, kill, loot..kill..loot..kill..level up! Repeat. Endgame content..Organize a raid or well thought out party..execute the dungeon with precision..kill..loot..Repeat.

Games should indeed have variety and flavor, but it almost sounds like you don't want to enjoy yourself. :(

And it's true, my life outside of gaming is pretty boring. I don't get to travel to distant worlds, shoot people or go on adventures. I don't know if you think i'm particularly neglected or something, but i'm pretty normal. I have friends who I spent time with frequently, I've worked a variety of mind-numbing jobs. Real world goals and ambitions..Hell, I even read books for fun! I must be miserable! lol

    Someone save me!

Its the WOW effect! Ive never played it, played a game that i would consider better (ROM), but never played WOW, but the features in this game is all so similiar to whats in WOW, except instead of swords and magic, debuffs, roles, and tanks, we have a shooter!

I dont know man, Defiance has dailies, most rpg's have the same.

Defiance has guilds, again most if not all rpg's have the same.

Defiance has instances(very soloable instance, but instances none the less, some if not all rpg's have them.

    Pvp? rpg's have those to?

    Vehichles=Mounts, same thing!!!

There is no gear grind, wait, yes there is, but its a simple gear grind, unlike WOW, so its acceppted!

So where does the difference begin? Well, thats easy, a gun!! The game has stolen every aspect of an rpg except the Holy Trinity!. Some has even suggested adding other rpg elements (AH, pets), but people hate WOW so much that they would rather the game dumb down to simplicity, than actually take specific rpg element and apply it without ruining the lore.

Sh!t, everything else is rpg related, why not build upon that?

Sure ive quit, but im very interested with the direction of this game! During beta, i saw whatwas trying to be accomplished, and all i could do was gush over it. Bought the game, and couldnt believe what i saw. As a hardcore rpg fan (pc of course), im open minded, but damn, i felt insulted. Is this really what they think is ground breaking?? Look i know people hate the gear grind, carrot and stick route, fine, but to do thing for almost no reward?? Really??

Forgive me for being a devils advocate, especially since you are enjoying your time with those friends. But can we be honest here? The fact is any game, even some of the worst of games can be fun with others... hell you could be making fun of it together..

Anyway point is.. if the only defense a game has is .. it is fun to play with friends and cant stand on its own.. then why play it? After all you can make the excuse any game is fun when played with a friend.

Just saying, food for thought. Either way, im glad your taking your time away from your new buds to post so much on the forums :D Hope you keep enjoying it.

I have to agree, but who would attempt to play a game like this by themselves? Is everyone that anti-social these days? And its not really a defense per-say, i stopped defending Defiance for the most part. Im just giving people options to get some friends and enjoy the game. Defending anything in this day, especially on the internet, is pointless, so i just stopped trying.

Options are the best thing to have in a game like this. If none of it is working for you, trying hanging out with some dumb-*** friends and having fun. All im saying. ;].

I quit yesterday with no hard feelings, the games lack of meaningful content outside the main story and ego 1k frees me to spend time in other worlds. Im still in support of this game making a come back and will look forward to dlc. Given a few months it might even have most the bugs fixed.

To those of you still in love with this game, I salute you all, you guys will be in the best shape when dlc hits. As for I, 5 more minutes and I can try out ffxi new expansion.

Ps Im still going to stay in the forums :P

I play it because I have fun running around on my quad or roller and shooting stuff. I also find the forums entertaining.

    another hate post? omg
omg.... why do we play this game? maybe becasue its fun and its shooter game .... you can use this question for every FPS/TPS out there.... why do people play COD or BF3 or even D3 with same repetitve content? because its fun to shoot something and gain some reward in nice world with TV show background.... I do a few PvP few shadow war few coop map and daily/weekly contract every day and its still fun try to complete some pursuits :)this game has its player base and there is always many people on servers/mirrors... I am still waiting only few seconds on SHW or any COOP map or PvP ..arkfalls are full of people so stop hating man:) this game will survive with stable community base and after more DLC more people will come back again as always in these Buy to Play model games like GW2

I find the core game play enjoyable and there are many pursuits to sort of treat as new goals and stuff. Sure the game ran out of Main story content pretty fast and I have played the co-op many times over and the competitive really needs some new maps (especially ones that encourage more ranged shooting and use of cover etc instead of all the run-and-gun and Shotgun domination that is going on).

The Shadow Wars is just now starting to get better with better team play players on both sides. Also more Shadow War games are getting started. That really is a unique and awesome mode. The only issue I have with it is the Purple dots (Players not part of the PvP)... everybody in the area needs to pick a side or get evacuated from the area. It's fine if they want to continue to do other things during the Shadow War, but for that time being it needs to be PvP if you are in the area (no purples).

    [QUOTE=Archeus9;545961]In before fanboy spam

Yeah that's right, anyone who enjoys a game that you don't must be a fanboy. Makes perfect sense.

My favorite threads that bash the game are the people who try to add weight to there opinion by naming off all the MMO's they have played and how long they have played video games in general.

Ok, so you have played WoW and defiance is 100x worse, my question is why do you no longer play WoW? If its so great why did you stop playing, its my understanding that they still add new content to that game yet here you are playing defiance. So yeah, keep listing all the games you used to play that are still up and running, it really helps make your case /sarcasm

I play defiance because I find it fun, most of the complaints I read I can easily determine that the poster is just a noob and has no idea how the game works, these are usually the people who have 4x less my score in co-ops and arkfalls....but yeah, all weapons are the same and theres no progression or ability to do more damage....lol....you people are a joke.

Defending anything in this day, especially on the internet, is pointless, so i just stopped trying.

Options are the best thing to have in a game like this. If none of it is working for you, trying hanging out with some dumb-*** friends and having fun. All im saying. ;].

I actually play mostly solo outside the odd player helping with a location or Co-op. I've gotten tired of guilds in MMOs. I don't like listening to the whining that more often then not fills the chat, and I absolutely hate voice chat outside encounters. I don't like having someone talk to me while I play, much less a stranger through a microphone. But I am a self professed loner introvert.

I'm still playing for the same reason I play any video game: Fun.

I enjoy playing shooters, both 1st and 3rd person. I enjoy open world sandbox games. And I enjoy MMOs. This game combines all three, and it does what it does very, very well. It's not the only game I play, so I'm not expecting it to somehow fill 100% of my gaming requirements all by itself. No single game can do that for me, which is why I have lots of games on all 3 platforms. But Defiance is fun enough that I have been playing at least an hour or two of it every day since release day... some days, several hours.

If I weren't having fun, I wouldn't be playing it and I wouldn't be here. I've gotten far, far more than my money's worth of quality and quantity gaming entertainment out of Defiance already, and if I weren't still enjoying it, I'd simply move on to something else that was fun. I certainly wouldn't waste my time arguing or complaining about the game or other players who were still having fun.

Fun is the only reason to play any video game. If ever convinced myself that I was playing games for any other reason, I think I'd be Doing It Wrong.

Sounds like you've had some bad guild experiences. You find a fun guild and that would change, but I get where you are coming from. The option to play solo or with a group would be better then just solo only for those missions.

I stopped to play for now, and wait free content and fixes.

Probably 80% of sold boxes already left the game (many after the first week). Speaking on forums, you just speak to :
    - fans (short for "fanatic"), who would be happy even if there was even more bugs and less content.
    - newcomers, people who just come in and still don't know what is waiting them (aka a short game lifespan).
    - "ghosts", ppl like me who are deceived by current implementation and speak openly about defaults, waiting any decent update in order to reverse their speaking.

The marketing won't save it for season 2.

    Waiting for ArcheAge.

My first thought was "What is wrong with the younger generation?". Then I got thinking about it and decided it is not the younger generation it is more the advancement of technology. With Internet game developers can add and fix games whenever they want.

See back in the day before the consoles hooked up to the Internet you bought a game and played it over and over. I would love to know how many hours I logged on Pac-Man for the Atari 2600. Repetitive game, no rewards for advancement, no add-on content, no fixes, and no save feature. Yet, I spent a lot of time playing that game. Friends would come over and we would take turns. It was just fun.

This game is still fun and I am at Ego level 1596. I play every day for a few hours. I have met some cool gamers on here and have helped out people just starting to play this game. I have played through the story missions twice and done all the side missions. Sometimes I just sit there and watch my four year old get excited driving around on this game.

It really comes down to the individual player. Yes the game has bugs and gets frustrating at times. Coming on the forums and complaining, whining, and demanding is not going to change the game. Saying I am done or I want my money back does nothing for players that are enjoying the game either. Before anyone hates on me I am not saying that anyone one in this thread is doing this.

I play because I can and I still get enjoyment out of the game. I get to run around a open world and do what I feel like doing. I can either help others out or drive in circles around and Arkfall. So in a nutshell that is why I still play.
