There are good things about defiance no doubt and I honestly love alot of things about defiance, sadly the game was released with so little content that it feels nothing like an ever expanding world. Its an MMO without basic social functions, severe group limitations and programming that purposely limits interacting with people in the world.

The foundation of the game is fun and enjoyable but it is not an MMO anymore than a game like Borderlands is an MMO at this point sadly with less content. Those of us not clinging onto the 4LC have realised their are games out there where you have no need to hunt for something good because its everywhere. At some point even Trion is going to have to admit the truth and concede that they overestimated the quality of their product and only then will they begin building back up the trust they lost from alot of us. The game isnt great but it could be but im sorry im not willing to pretend the game is great now while waiting for it to become great.

No, this is where "obsession" shows up in lack of wisdom and perspective. OP is not saying, "Like Defiance because there are some 4-leaf clovers."

He actually is saying something very wise about life. You getting that or not will not make Defiance any better, and OP isn't trying to do that. But you (editorial you) getting that could make you better - could help you enjoy Defiance a little better by changing your perspective - or best of all it could help you enjoy everything in life more.

It's the opportunity-cost of complaining and whining that's the issue. 'Cause while you're busy (editorial you, there's been boatloads of flame directed at Trion and Defiance on these "fan" forums) - while a person is complaining and whining about things that can't change or won't change - that person is no engaged in finding another game that they do like, for instance.

There's this STUPID argument that "if you don't complain, nothing will change." No, you'll probably see very little positive change from all the whining and complaining about things that you really have no influence over. On the other hand, if you were taking that same time and energy, but using it to make positive things/changes in the world that you DO have influence over... What if EVERYONE looked at it this way?

What if it wasn't cool to complain and have opinions?

The main thing about Defiance is - it is what it is. If you were Trion, it would really be "your" game, but its not. If you don't like it, or it's not what you want, it doesn't even live up to your _reasonable_ expectations (the game has a few bugs, some very annoying, and the online communication is a joke, clearly, for what people expected) - but you chalk it up to a bad buy and stop playing. Why compound your error by wasting hours writing/reading forum posts complaining - i mean - "trying to make Defiance better."

'Cause Jeez-O-Man. If its that bad, people will stop playing and you're in luck because I hear they are still coming out with new video games all the time. If it's not that to other people, and they keep playing, what's it to you? No. Really.

So people like the game and defend stuff that you don't like about it. They look past the things you don't like because there are things they like enough that they look past that. That's what they do. That's what people that like things do. I'm sure that's what the people who don't like Defiance do with some things that they really like that others around them don't.

It doesn't matter if I say, "My time is valuable. I pick how I spend my time carefully." I sound self-important. I've spent a few hours playing Defiance and I will continue to, for now. All the things ppl have complained about, all of the "legitimate issues," that I would change in a second if I possible could, but I still play. I'm not an idiot, I just like the game enough. The servers are up. I play. I will stop eventually, just like every other game I've ever played.

If I say, "my time is valuable," that means nothing to any one here. But the question I have for the people spending hours reading/writing about all the issues they don't like/hate about Defiance and Trion, can't I ask, REALLY, "ISN'T YOU'RE TIME MORE VALUABLE?"

Because if it isn't - you (editorial "you," this goes out to anyone getting worked up by the OP and many others like it) have so much bigger issues than the chat system in a video game or bits that you don't think are worth the dollars they're charging. No. Really.

This would've worked (or at least been better received) if the weapon scaling, properties, and functionality would've been more interesting.

Some of you expected a massive sprawling RPG story while I expected Borderlands 2 with an MMO persistent world.

That was something they also should have made clear to their Distributors (and thus the retail chains) who shelved and/or catagorized it as an MMO. Working with Distributors daily in the publishing trade as I do, I can say that responsibility is squarely on Trion to monitor.

I can sure agree that SOMEONE dropped the ball with the distribution channel. I live in Denmark. I pre-ordered Defiance from my local GameStop (where I buy lots of games). I asked for the pre-order code, the answer was it will be in the box when you pick it up on release day! I've never not gotten pre-order codes prior to the launch! But they convienced me they hadn't received any games OR codes yet. Now, to top it all off, the game was scheduled to launch on Monday 2 April. Denmark is a very Christian country and almost shuts down for Easter. The Thursday, Friday, and Sunday prior to launch were holidays, no mail, no delivers, stores closed etc. So I decided that if I wanted to play on launch day, I needed to order on-line and I did.

You might ask, why did I care if I got in at launch or a few days later. I'm an MMO hobbyist. A large part of the fun for me is to run with the wave as we roll thru the content. I also wanted to lock in my Mac Death name before someone else grabbed it. So, I placed an on-line order. In a few minutes I received an email with what turned out to be a pre-order code. I applied it and saw that Account management didn't recognize it as a CD-Key. I contacted the on-line store and asked for my CD-Key, they said, no worries, the distributer has told us one code is all you need. Your account will be unlocked on 2 April when the servers go live.

On 2 April, I attempt to log in but the game tells me I'm not entitled. I contact Trion CS. They convience me that indeed I require the CD-Key. I contact the on-line store and relay what I've been told by Trion CS. The store contacts Trion. In a few hours, I get an email with the CD-Key. I apply it and get in the game. Someone had dropped the ball big time with the European distribution.

I was able to get my name: Mac Death on both North America and Europe servers.

It didn't even occur to me to ask why you would have cared about getting in a few days earlier. Like you, I play MMOs, but not a lot of hours per week. Like you, and for the reasons you stated, I always prefer a headstart program.

I just gave a knowing nod on this side of the monitor. ;)

I'll be back to Defiance eventually, I don't really doubt that. Once they've had all their time to add in more storyline, or more things to do besides the Arkfall/emergency rinse-repeat (as I swear to whatever gods people want to believe in, I will never sit here and do those stupid Rampages and Races).

Meantime, I have an MMO that gives me the story I need and an easier grouping experience. To those that think it is MMO X, Y, or Z; I will neither confirm nor deny it. My point is not to promote another game over this one in that regard.

As I wait on the Dev team to get arses into a real gear, though, I'll continue keeping an eye on the game, while hanging out and chatting/debating here.
