Agreed. Cross Platform between console and PC has huge implications besides the good old "Everyone's playing together 8D". The issues become both social (the communities are quite different) and technical (hardware limitations and input methods). Ultimately what ends up happening in the end is the PC players get the short end of the stick as visually everything gets scaled back, including the view distance, to what consoles can handle, and the UI tends to be cumbersome at best or unusable at worst. You can see the two online final fantasy MMOs for perfect examples of this (The first one had a horrifically short view distance that faded into a grey fog because it was limited to the PS2 spec. There was an unofficial mod to fix it, but you could technically get banned for it by the letter of the EULA.)

The biggest annoyance would be that, due to the LOVELY update systems on consoles (particularly Microsoft) PC would be completely beholden to the console update schedule if they were linked.

I'm not expecting much from the game on PC in the long run already purely because of it's console version linked or unlinked at this point as they appear to be making the console version their primary focus, so if the PC client saw so much as higher res textures, I would be surprised..

As nice as this would be the bad blood between Microsoft and Sony dates back to before the Xbox was even a concept. Never going to happen.

Wow man, you really believe that a mouse sensitivity for a fps - or a shooter for that matter lacks control lol???

They say things like "we can't promise that they're systems would be up to our standards" which translates as "they may have a better system for you and we don't want you to know about it"

Granted I play on PC and see this whole Xbox vs PS as a pointless battle, but still.

Gearbox Wanted Cross-Platform Play For Borderlands 2

So if Borderlands 2 couldn't go cross platform, I don't think there's much chance for Defiance to go cross platform either

    Good point

    I respectfully disagree with you.

The worst Keyboard and Mouse player has an advantage against a good Controller player. Although there has been talk of having trading cross platform, or social only areas, but any co-op or PvP would be unenjoyable.

Oh, this sH#t again. Pretty sure there are people that can easily beat KB+M users with a controller. Even if they couldn't, who the f cares.

I respectfully disagree in regards to Shadowrun. In most cases, mouse is better than controller, but Shadowrun has never given me this problem. It has other failings, certainly, but I do just as well in Shadowrun against pc players as I do in any other fps against xbox players... which isn't particularly great, not terrible, but not great. That said, I would have much preferred cross-platform gameplay. Worst case, give console players the option to use usb mouse and keyboard to even the playing field (I think they should do this either way). Another option would be to let the player limit what platforms they go up against in pvp but let pve stay open. I've got lots of friends that I'd be playing with if the game was cross-platform, but it's not happening either way. And for the record, I mostly blame microshaft. I'm not a big fan of sony, but MS is notorious for taking their ball and going home (or in some cases, taking somebody else's chips... and other questionable business practices). Alas, xbox has the games I like to play... But at least I'm not making a habit of using winblows.
