New Shop Items: Appearance Changes

So I was checking out the new announcement about the DLC and saw this little bit:

And thought, most of us didn't really notice that there were other pages for out character hair and eyes and things until it was to late and we were to far in out Ego to change. Why not give one free change not including a race/sex change to every one who is currently playing the game when this new stuff hits the shop?

Because think about it, is it really our fault that half the buttons in the game blend in with the background?
I just think it is kind of silly to charge bits for a hair/face change when they could easily put in a vendor of sorts and charge about 15,000 scrip for it or 100 bits, or even charge arksalvage.

I have no problems with a name, race, body, or sex change being charged bits because that is not something you should do whilly nilly.

Anyways, that is just my opinion on the matter.

I wouldn't mind a "first one's free" with the purchase of the DLC and/or season pass. Not sure if I want to see it scripable, though.

I do agree on the fact that there should be a 1 time change for those of us who's been playing since launch and re-rolling a new toon has no use since there's no classes in this game.

I don't mind paying bits if i ever wanna change my toon's appearance, but not seeing it happen with scrips.

Seriously, anyone with the Daredevil title...hell anyone playing until they actually fix that stupid menu if they haven't yet, should get 1 free change (and please don't release that option without having changed the menu, Trion, I'm sure there are dozens of suggestion threads telling you this, but it bears repeating).

...That said since most end game outfits are armor it doesn't matter that much, but I'd still like me some face paint.

If one group of players gets a free charachter change, then everyone else will want it for free too..and complain/cry if they dont.

I dont think 'free' will work, so as long as the various change options are reasonably priced then paying is the way forward imo.

Agreed. I think a first one's free with purchase of DLC is perfectly reasonable (and really hope they add it to the list myself :) ). I, however, recognize that Trion needs to make money SOMEWHERE. I'm 50/50 (meaning I see both sides of the argument) on whether to make it scripable or not.

I actually don't mind paying Bits to change my characters name/race/sex/appearance. I figure Trion is a private company that needs to make money, and by contributing to their coffers we are (hopefully) ensuring ongoing and continued technical support, patching and DLC.

Ultimately we created our characters, some of us regret the decisions we made about character customisation but are too far into the game to even consider restarting, but really that's our fault. Just as long as they don't take the mickey and charge us some obscene price... I'd be prepared to pay up to 800 Bits for a COMPLETE customisation overhaul, but no more.

well considering that the cool outfits cover up your face " emc heavy trooper" i dont see myself ever paying for cosmetic changes. i really hope people dont either as its a very dumb thing to spend real money on. also i see alot of people with the 960 bit trucks and outfits, so dont worry about them making money. they're already bleeding alot of people dry.

I haven't bought any of the outfits but one of my clan mates got me the Pink Nomad for my birthday a few days back I would of bought it myself but I had issues finding the game time cards. But anyways, the point its the Trucks are nifty and a good price in bits for them, but the outfits are kinda ripoff because one its just a recolor and two there separate items the helm and body.

i heard the dlc will include a 4 seater. 960 for a truck or get the dlc, lol if they do add the 4 seater then $10 for the 2 seater nomad is a ripoff anyways. even if the pink is cheaper.

I don't think I would ever use the 4 setter because I only group with friends to do co-ops or pvp, there is no real reason for me to use it.

Now my Pink Nomad I use all the time because I love the way it looks :D

I've bought a couple of outfits including Spec Ops Hero (my favourite). I don't consider it a waste of money because it brings me a lot of joy seeing my character adorned in such awesome looking threads! :)

well consider this, for the same amount as most of those reskin outfits you could buy a dlc pack. how is that not a waste? wether you enjoy its look or not you're still spending too much on a item thats just a reskin. i look at it from a financial view point. the items are so overpriced that every one of them is a waste

Very good point regarding the DLC. I agree that they are overpriced, but I'm still content with the product I've received. Ultimately it's up to the individual to decide whether or not they spend their money, nobody's forcing them too. I am on your side though, a general decrease in the price of outfits/vehicles etc would be desirable!

Haha, that'd be nice! Although I think I'm probably more likely to see a flock of winged pigs flying in formation singing the national anthem with red, white and blue smoke trailing out of their a**es than that happening. Here's to hoping though!

Except one thing. ALL your chars get that outfit if bought from the store. You think I am gonna go and get that ark predator uniform for every char yer out of yer mind. Anything 'earned' is lost with a new char.

Still, I didn't know about all characters gaining it, I personally don't think it is worth it. I mean maybe if it was a unique item and not a recolor.

so is buying anything from a digital store... kinda see where this is going?

ALOT of things we buy is to temp use said things or objectives. This is no different least with this stuff ALL your chars obtain them.

That would be nice but NOTHING in the game right now isn't all but a recolor. They need to add raids and create unique for those raiders/pvpers. For me knowing when I create my Casthian (I hope that is a race I can choose for he WILL be my main and my female will just become an alt then) On the OP subject I started over from a ego 800+ char because Iw ant her to look the way I want her to look and I too discovered the additional options but I choose no warpaint on purpose. I just made her skin look as light as possible and made her Theresa Halfbreed. Half Irathian and half Casthian. =) Long story.

It shoud come for ether A) preorders, B) Season pass purchases or C) those who joined and played since start (daredevil).

I wanted to play a Casthian from the get go. if I can change my chars race I will pay bits or create a new from scratch but if you think someone with my name (it's my real name but look it up why I like it so much) you obviously have no idea what that name belongs to and I an't talkin no alchemist bub. This name is ALOT older than that Anime' albeit that is a bloody good anime'

Ok apparently I need to spell it out. Elric is an albino prince with a sword that eats souls. I want to play as a Casthian named Elric Templar. Focus on the Elric part... now race.... now name.. race... get it? That is my answer to the 'why....would you make another character?' Or to be just plain as dirt. I have yet to play the race of alien I wanted to from the get go. I don't know how else to point it out sorry.

the way you worded it made no sense, thats why i didnt understand its relevance to the conversation. Also the reason i asked why is because most cool outfits in the game cover your whole body, making it so your appearance is unknown. and there is no racial benefits, nor classes. So making a new character seems rather pointless.

I see a lot of people on here expecting that they'll have to pay for this. While in all likely hood they might hoodwink us in this manner, or give us that free change with the purchase to put on the new race. nothing is confirmed how it works.

Just because it's announced to be in the store might just be the only place they can put their intended UI for these changes. It COULD very well be like walking up to the machine in Borderlands to change your character. You go in you change you leave.

I'm thinking before we go off lets wait and see what it really is then get all up in arms if it's a money grab. We're going off mere speculation at this point.

I figured if any of their staff reads the forums they might see this and take into consideration some changes that all might enjoy such as the first free change.

Making people pay every time they want to change their hairstyle is just stupid. Changing your appearance should be as easy as changing your outfit. This is a basic feature that should have been in the game from the start. Differentiating players by giving them easy access to more appearance options is a good way to increase players' immersion and attachment to their characters.

If they really feel the need to monetize your character's appearance, they should put new appearance options in the cash shop that you can't get elsewhere. If you want to change your gender or race, I could see that being a microtransaction (emphasis on the micro, which Trion doesn't seem to have a firm grasp on).

Race I don't agree with (except first ones free). You don't wake up and suddenly become Chinese, Russian, or Canadian do you?
Hair makeup tattoos and other aesthetics on top of race should always be free.

i think that to pay every time you want a change is......crazy i mean i always edit my char in mmo or rpg games soooo that would hurt me

Agreed. Race/sex changes I don't mind costing Bits. Hairstyles/tattoos etc should cost Scrip/Arkfall Salvage etc.
