Check out Steam's daily stats for the game. It's not all inclusive however being the largest PC digital distributor there is an obvious trend with some really terrible player numbers. You just can't ignore the numbers that are public to see a glimpse behind the curtain. It's too bad Trion isn't a public company or else we'd get solid numbers, so instead we are left with using what's available to make informed guesses regarding it's state.

Defiance's peak today on Steam is 1,674 players.

At least round up each season with some sort of respectable tie -up just in case, and then it doesn't leave as much of a bad taste in the mouth when they do cancel.

Given Syfy's reputation for being trigger happy, and not seeing stuff through to an adequate conclusion the talk has often been on the ability of the Game or the Show to survive without one or the other. The expectation has been that the show would most likely go bye-bye sooner than the game. Ironic then that on present form to an outsider looking in, it would seem a reversal of that notion would be the most likely outcome.

I thought the same until I recently saw the production money spent into the show and the game. The show was more important and thus far having played the game it's reenforced harshly. I could easily see the show lasting longer than Defiance staying a 3 platform game. It can last a lot longer on the PC, but for consoles I don't see it lasting that long at all. Patching is just too much of a hassle and console players gravitate towards newer hardware and games much faster than PC gamers.

I pretty much disagree with you entirely, while SG:U certainly wasn't ground breakingly original; I struggle to point to any sci-fi drama that is these days. I enjoyed SG:U even more than SG-1.. it was less simplistic, a lot gritter, and the character development was a lot more evolved, albeit slow. With hindsight probably too slow to maintain the 'whoosh-bangness' of it's predecessors that many of it's detractors craved.

Yeah sure some of the acting was a little bit ropey from the off... generally speaking I find that to be generally true for most Sci-fi series when they start out for some reason; It's like they need a season to get settled.. certainly can't tell me that Robert Carlyle is a 'cardboard cut out' actor, he's one of the best character actors around, sadly he didn't get the opportunity to fully develop the role.

Congratulations on taking the last bit of information regarding my response while completely ignoring and removing the beginning on my response in which I specifically addressed your obnoxious and non constructive reply.

Well mate many players dont like having more programs than is needed running, so chose to play without for instance Steam, so that will scewer the numbers.

What I wonder is whether they will release a version of the game for PS4 or Xbox Infinity? Would they allow some kind of safe migration to the next platform?

I would think that's entirely possible since the PS3 at least doesn't seem to have any Safe File at all for this game. It is all in their own Cloud.

I think it's not likely. It wouldn't be of the quality of a next hardware cycle game and thus wouldn't be attractive to gamers that paid the hundreds of dollars for a different experience. I think this because if you look at the PC version it's a straight console port completely ignoring superior PC hardware options. If it shows up it would have to be a port except it's not that easy on consoles with another certification process and patching issues a long with specific servers to support the platforms.

The odds are so against it, but I guess anything is possible. I wouldn't be hoping for it though if I were you.

Robert Carlyle is a great actor true, however the writing in SG:U was appalling. His character was 2 dimensional at best, the rest were entirely 1 dimensional cardboard cut outs. SG:U was simply garbage as a Star Gate franchise. The story and characters may have worked in another time and world. They were counting on the Star Gate tag carrying it, but you can put make up on a pig, and it's still a pig. It just wasn't Star Gate, it had nothing of the essence of Star Gate.

Those people are behind the times. It was leaked a couple of weeks ago that the second season was a done deal.
