"why?" is a better question
Right after push to talk.
"Why not?" is an even better one :)
Never.
It undermines their business model.
Do want. Push to talk too!

Auction house isnt a "basic" feature and i hope we Never get it in Defiance, if there comes one, then say hello to prices on everything go up and you think 30k was high for a challenger... then they prolly go up to 100k and thats on normal npc prices and so will All mods and weapons on normal vendors.
Do want!
City hub as well!
I think maybe what they should do instead of a auction have an area for people to trade other players or have possibly like a player shop like when you inspect there will be an option to see what they player is selling and if you like it buy it. But to help with that have like an area that no creatures can enter just players to trade, buy, and maybe setup parties for co-op and stuff be an easy solution i think for everyone also be a good way to meet new people.
if your worried about prices going up on things then have you gone through the vendor forum on this website itself. It is already quite inflated as it is 300k+ for a Legendary FRC SAW when an epic can be just as good or better depending on what attributes it was spawned with, all depends on that trusty roll. Auction houses would simplify the current auction system (being the forum) and bring it in game where in my opinion would make it easier to communicate and get what you are looking for faster and easier as well as sellers getting rid of their inventory faster and easier and if you work together you can get a even price market flowing through but, like all games (WoW, EQ1-2 for EX.) the in game economy will go up and down depending on DLC's and just what happens to be the hot mod or weapon once a hot fix hits.
you don't? name one MMO that doesn't have a mail system or a trade broker for that matter.
I consider them "basic" features because they are "standard" features in every MMO and this IS an MMO, MMOtps but still an MMO.
That said, since this game has no community or any sense of community at all, maybe that is why some people are so much against this.
Anything is better than using the forums to trade. Even a trade chat. Realisticall tho supply and demand is what it is with or without an AH. Probably cheaper since more access to supply as ppl won't have to go thru forums, which most probably don't.
I mean trading on the forums? That is like telegraphs vs texts haha
auction houses/trade brokers are commonplace in MMORPGs, not so much in shooters, there aren't many MMO shooters to compare to, but planetside doesn't have one, nor do any of the lobby shooters, barring TF2 if that even counts. Just because it has the term MMO, doesn't mean it's expected to have the same features you may have seen in some other MMO sub-genres.
An AH is handy in those games, because the gear is vastly different across the game, as well as crafting components, and player produced items. Defiance has none of these things, and the gear is all relatively the same. Weapons are only marginally better.
An AH has nothing to do with community. You don't interact with the community to buy or sell items in any AH I've seen - other than EQ, but usually that's just an AFK player. Most often it's simply an automated vendor system. It could be argued that by bringing people to the forums to post, there is more of a community presence with the current method.
You would get the same effect as an AH in this game with a vendor with a much greater diversity and stock count.
I would absolutely agree with this. The forum IS the Defiance community, at least until we get some chat system upgrades...
An Auction House would be detrimental to bit sales- yes there are still outfits, vehicles, and inventory... but those are static: you buy them once, and then you have it. Not so with lockboxes. They are more like a lottery ticket.
You can see several threads of people, saying how they bought lockboxes with bits. This is clearly working for Trion. By adding an Auction House, they lose that income, because at that point, NO ONE needs lockboxes; you just go to the AH and get what you want. This makes Scrip extremely important, and minimizes Keycodes.
exactly what i've said in numerous threads. once the scrip becomes important, you get scrip farmers and the inevitable chat/voice spam from the resellers. hopefully not much, but some, would likely show up. keys/lockboxes would still be important, but likely more important to those who re-sell items.
really though, WHY would an AH be of any use? There's nothing anyone would really want to buy since none of the guns are really that different, just more suited to a specific play style or taste.
An auction house wouldn't stop people from buying lockboxes.
How do you expect people get the items they are selling? Mob drops are ****.
Planetside doesn't have an ah cause it doesn't have any gear so an ah is kinda pointless. You buy all your "gear" for real money from the store unless your dumb enough to spend 1k certs on a new gun when you could have bought it for like $5 instead and dumped thoose certs into your skills but I digress.
The gear in Defiance may not be vastly different right now but mark my words it WILL be in due time. If they seriously try to run this with no gear progression then once somebody hits max ego or even like 2500 they will be quitting. I've been shopping vendors for along time and while I have yet to get a decent epic saw or groundpounder I know my odds are ALOT better then wasting time opening boxes. I can even pick up blue mods while I am at it.
Currently this game allready has an "ah" anyway called the trade forums. Its just 10x harder then it needs to be to get anything done and we're asking for a quality of life improvement. That said there's only 2 gun slots a shield and a nade so if it comes to it I will work the trade forum. But a bank though is much needed so I can store my 8+ blue mods I collected without having to sort them everytime I run salvage. Its really annoying.
Firstly Nobody has ever in the history of MMO gaming to my knowledge had a gun put to there head and been forced to use an ah. This game offers plenty of scrip without an ah allready and the problem is actually TOO MUCH scrip and nothing to spend it on.
You seem to imply Trion would raise the vendor prices to account for inflation based on an ah. An ah does not cause inflation. In fact it dos the exact opposite because it allways has a tax on it that pulls scrip out of the economy. You seem to think an ah somehow generates wealth. This is not the case at all as it simply moves it around more efficiently.
Well, "those" people probably shouldn't be playing an MMO if they don't want to deal with an economy.
Also, you can't compare Defiance with games like Planetside. Apples and oranges.
You can however compare it to Tabula Rasa, which was another shooter with gear drops. It also had an AH.
Basing this on what, exactly? There's no gear progression in most if not all lobby shooters and they work fine.
that achieves almost no improvement in the end
You don't need a bank to do this, they can tweak the inventory management screen to accomplish the same end goal.
Simply put, people need an easy way to sell cool items they find without having to wade through ******** on a forum and then hoping both parties log in at the same time.
An auction house is the only logical solution.
who are you to tell people what games they can or cannot play?
Not really, Defiance is closer to Planetside than it is to WoW. Shooter/twitch based, more focused on player skill than abilities and gear. What makes it closer to an MMORPG than Planetside?
... and when was the last time you played Tabula Rasa? Ohh....
There is the answer to the most important question. You just want to sell your items for more than what the vendors give you. So, have the vendors give you more $ and you'd be just as happy, right? But what's the end-game, now that you've got the scrip, what do you plan to do with it?
Tabula Rasa's downfall wasn't an AH you ***********.
Quit being purposely obtuse. Just because YOU don't like the idea doesn't mean that its not a good addition, as per most the community requesting it.
edit-
Apparently even tame schoolground insults are censored.
Inflation would be due to the same thing that happens in MMOs. Someone will corner the market and decide what price they would sell all those guns at. Only way to combat this is one gun limit per account. This would combat the scrip farmers that would come into the game.
Did I say it was? Care to point out where I did? Point is, it didn't help. People seem to be under the impression that an AH will help the current issues, can anyone demonstrate how?
Where do you see MOST of the community? I see just as many who don't want one. It has nothing to do with whether or not I want one; adding one is pointless, and would do more harm than good.
No, at this time Lock boxes arent so important. Also orange items are not so much better than blue which are more popular.
Auction House would boost Trion income. Why? Because when you can sell items from Lock Boxes and buy another that makes more sense to get them. Get bits for outfits or even buy and sell lock boxes. Trade always help to get proper income.
And its quite simple that If orange are not so popular from Lock Boxes you must buy a lot of them to sell one orange item :) Lot of lock boxes, lots of bits for Trion because many people likes shortcut (not to farm keycodes).
Also Auction House Area is a place when you can very easy interact, its also common fact.
Yes, BUT, what you'd end up with is a large gap between the people who sell via the AH, and those that don't. If the next expansion prices based on what those people have, the ones who don't use it won't be able to buy them, if they scale it based on the people who don't use it, the ones with all the scrip will still have more than they know what to do with.
What planet are you on? Lockboxes are really the only way to get the rarest items right now, so they are pretty important, compared to farming arkfalls for actual items. You are correct that an orange isn't so much better, but that just drives homes the "why even bother?" question.
Are you suggesting that people will use bits to buy lockboxes to sell for scrip? Nobody would do that. Anyone who is selling in the AH does so because they like to make money, and they're certainly not going to spend real money to earn fake money. If anything, people would be more inclined to buy scrip from farmers for real $ instead of taking the chance of real money for a lockbox with nothing to sell.
Nobody interacts at an auction house, they walk up to the automated vendor, buy or sell, and walk away.
This is a nice idea but it wouldn't really work with defiance. Plus as previously states it does undermine their business model.
