Like Perfect World does with "Zen", and Sony does with "Station Cash" (ie. they use the same real money currency across all their games), you should turn Bits into like a "Trion bucks" thing so it can be used in both Defiance and Rift.
Just sayin! If this were true, it would definitely encourage me to buy some of it.

F2P is far from fail lol, it is the next step in every MMO evolution (with the exception of WoW). Every game that has gone F2P has flourished. Not going F2P would result in fail.
