Layoffs might not be bad news for defiance?
I have read a few posts and they are all negative and im pretty sure that it will have some affect on us defiance players but it could be taken another way so it might not be all bad (even though it probably is! )The released statement by trion says

"To best position Trion in a rapidly changing industry, we have reorganized our teams and are expanding our free to play offering. With Defiance, we delivered a great game that more than one million gamers registered to play and continue to enjoy. As we progress from launch to ongoing development of the game, we are adjusting our staffing levels to deliver new content and improved features. RIFT, and our other titles in development, were unaffected by these changes. We are very much looking forward to the free to play release of RIFT and are excited by the other new titles currently in development."

    First this section
"we are adjusting our staffing levels to deliver new content and improved features"
Suggests that staff are being moved away from other areas too defiance to deliver new and better content. I am sure there was a contract between them and syfy at some stage promising to deliver the new content and meet targets so that they can be secure in there cut of the profits however small it may be in the game sales.

    also this second section
RIFT, and our other titles in development, were unaffected by these changes
This hints that staff might be moved from rift to defiance and they are saying it wont affect it.

Maybe alot of the staff were only needed for the launch of the game and they were clearly behind in development and raised the staff level temporarily to catch up. I just hope that the people responsible for the games problems are gone and we now have someone reliable to deliver content that works

Less staff does not equal more features faster. I'm not saying the company is drowning, could just be them trimming the fat, but this is in no way good news.

    I need to say this:
It's not inherently true with any game requiring server access. If the companies not with you, the server ain't gonna be either.
Not to mention you still need bug fixes.

Could be to cut down on money going to staff if they have staff just sitting around doing nothing

montys minute on gamebreaker.tv to get some good info
everytime an mmo launches they need to purge the extra programmers that were responsible for laying the groundwork for the game

the amount of people that are required to continue running the game is about 1/3 of what was required to create it

from what ive heard 90% of the time a programmer gets a job on creating a new title theyre aware that once the game ships theyre going to need to find another job

should check out montys minute on gamebreaker.tv hes a guy who talks about what its like working in the gaming industry and gives lots of good inside info
