You can make a pretty penny doing this if the game is a hit except Defiance isn't and it lacks any content people would go to 3rd parties for.

Yea but selling it off for $2? The way I see it the OP has two choices:
    1. Sell the site and cut his losses (no fun)
    2. Stick with his investment and wait to see if the product improves (have a little faith)

He obviously isn't going to proceed with further domain payments so he's trying to get at least some return. As for wait and see that's just going to cost more money than he's already lost. He understands the writing is on the wall.

    Fair enough, I guess.

Ok I guess you guys didn't get the joke. First off, WhiteCell, why are you still here? I thought you quit ages ago?

Secondly, the website isn't really an "investment". Sure I spent a lot of time on it but that's about it. I get domain names for dirt cheap so it cost like $7, that's all the money I've put into it. It's not a website meant to make money, although someone could certainly turn it into something like that (if Defiance becomes successful). I just wanted a website full of useful information for the players to use. It go an amazing amount of hits up until the beginning of Hellbug Season. Once that update was released, the game lost a lot of players and nobody cared about it anymore, and my website literally went from the night before having it's record high number of hits to the next day having a record low number.

I was just joking about selling it, that's why I said 2 dolla make you holla. Why would I bother taking the time to sell it for just $2? BUT, as the game isn't looking successful at the moment, and seeing as the game is continuously disappointing me, I won't be playing it as avidly as before. Sure I'll keep an eye on it, but it won't be my main game. Since it's not my main game, it's highly unlikely that I'll be motivated to update and continue building the Academy. So if anyone is still passionate about Defiance, they're more than welcome to pick up the baton and take my spot as admin of the Academy.

I'm not "cutting my losses" or anything like that. The website was never intended to make profit. If whoever (if anybody) that takes over wants to make profit from it, they're welcome to try their own strategy. I just don't like things to go to waste, so I'd be willing to pass over leadership to someone who still cares about the game.

I hope that clears some things up.

    Well I was certainly wrong wasn't I :)

Anyway, that is what typically occurs with MMO game domains so that is what I figured.

Yeah it was a good theory, because you're right that's what always tends to happen. This was my first attempt at a fan site instead of just making a site for my guild though, so I wasn't going for profit. Maybe in the future I'll make something for profit. OOh maybe for WildStar when it releases.
