    Legendaries: What's the Point?
    Hi guys,
Firstly I'd like to say I am not trolling or complaining, just curious and would like some kind & helpful responses.
With the whole 'Weapon XP' system, I can use my favoured Assault Rifle and level it up to gain a bonus stat for it; GREAT! My favourite gun is now even more powerful! However, to continue earning XP for Assault Rifles in general I must now use a different one because the gun's XP cap has been hit... great.

So my question is this: What is my incentive for obtaining an Orange/Purple weapon, and taking time to get mods of the same synergy for it? I can get a Green weapon that does that same amount of damage and possibly even have elemental effects, I can even add mod slots to it, and once its XP cap is hit I can salvage it and move on, no problem. Why spend time, scrip and salvage on Orange/Purple weapons when they will be gone in a day of use?

    Thank you for reading :)

To be short but truly genuine, there is no point to "Legendary" weapons in Defiance. I have six or seven of them and they are ALL outdone by greens. All of them.

The point is to keep you grinding, or keep you spending dollars. The problem is that 99 out of 100 legendaries aren't as good as a purple you'll find by doing vendor sweeps every hour or so. Yea, I pulled that number out of my ***, but I bet it's pretty damn close. All my best loadout with one single exception, is Purple. My oranges are just trade items.

Way I see it legendaries come with more bonuses. And when those bonuses are perfect for the weapon and your playstyle you're set, you keep it in your inventory, you use it when you want to get the job done fast. Currently I have 4 'perfect' purples, 2 for co-op, 2 for pvp, the incentive to keep going is that there are better oranges out there, I just haven't found them yet, and when I do I bet it'll take a few goes to find one where the level up bonus is better than my existing ones.

Sometimes I'll mod in a bigger mag, but for the most part I stick to [2] Synergy weapons instead of blowing salvage on [4] Synergy weapons. I'm leaving those till EGO 5000. The reason for waiting is that as your EGO increases you'll see that the bonuses on weapons that drop for you increase slightly, so it seems pointless to trick out an EGO 3700 weapon when you know eventually you're going to get better.

Very good point. I forgot about my orange frag grenade, which is the best I've seen yet. Other than that all the oranges I've seen are craptastic.

So just to clarify, you guys are practically saying a Green/Blue/Purple weapon is just as good as an Orange, considering the number of Mod Slots a weapon comes with isn't really important because you can just add some more. The only reason Orange weapons are in the game is to keep you grinding keycodes and playing the game?

EDIT: I'm totally over thinking this, but in that case, why would I even spend my scrip/salvage points on weapons when I can get a dirt cheap one from a vendor that does the same job and will be less of a loss when I cap its XP.

There in lies one of the major flaws with Defiance. Trion does not seem to understand the players when it comes to games like this.

They do not understand that it is not the 'plethora' of key codes that prevented people from buying Bits. It was not the limited number of outfits or vehicles that prevented people from buying Bits.

It is the fact that there is little to no point in spending the real money to get something that is only marginally, if that, better then the items you get for free in game.

First, you have to actually overcome the insane rarity of getting a legendary in a lockbox. Then you have to not only hope that it is a weapon type you want, but that it has decent bonuses (nothing like a legendary BMC with Brutal on it!). Even if you get the weapon and stats you want, good luck finding any of the mods for the synergy unless it is Brutal or a weapon synergy.

Trion takes this mentality with almost every aspect of the game.

I can see them now 'Players will not care if we remove Fright yard but not the contracts for it!', 'Players will understand if we leave Arkfalls buggy for over a week. After all, they have nothing better to do for the 15 minutes it takes to clear the non-bugged ones', 'Yes, I know players are frustrated over the reload bug, but let's give them new textures on the hellbug. What? No, we are not over using the model. It only counts for 75% of the models used.'

Legendary guns give you the opportunity of having more bonuses than any other rarity's, they tend to always have around 3-4 bonuses (excluding the exp bonus)

The legendary rarity often increases the efficiency of certain exp bonus's too. Here is an example.

Blue Sawed-off Shotgun: 15% speed boost on full reload for 5 seconds
Purple Sawed-off Shotgun: 30% speed boost on full reload for 5 seconds
Orange Sawed-off Shotgun: 45% speed boost on full reload for 5 seconds

    Hope this helps :)

Once you hit the Weapon Skill max of level 20... then that Orange weapon with right synergy, bonuses, and mods, is potentially the most "potent" version of that weapon after you have also maxed that level to gain 1 more additional bonus.

Does that help you get an edge in PvP? I suppose it would depend on the weapon and your playing skill regardless :)

For PvE, every weapon + your play skill will have you winning more than not.
