I heard their is a patch coming soon that will also allow you to reset the XP bar on the gun in case you want to work on it again and gain a new XP bonus. I am assuming this will probably cost a lot of Ark Salvage.

It all depends on the synergies involved and your play style:
I have salvaged two orange pistols (both FRC Magnums) after working them to max XP, but I still have an orange FRC Scattergun ego 30 (yes, 30, and no I didn't buy a lock box) that I will swap back to when I get lvl 20 on pump shotguns. Unless something else mystical comes along, I'm also saving the Deta Aru and Nolan's AR for when my pistol and AR skill is lvl 20. Those are just good, fun weapons.

For me, using the already mastered orange weapon most of the time is more enjoyable than switching loadouts as soon as you mastered a weapon to keep getting weapon skill xp.

I still use my level 20 stuff, I don't need to level up other weapon classes as it's unlikely I will ever be using infectors/bmg's anyway. So I don't see the point.

If it's for pursuits, then WAIT until you're a much higher level, like 4000+, to the point that exp takes too long to level you up, so you then use pursuits and weapon class leveling to boost you up. If you complete them all now and then become a high level, you're going to have a very hard time getting to 5000.

It's nice that you feel able to continue using a weapon just because you like it, but I can't seem to do that at the moment, knowing that I am not making any progress on my character bothers me too much. I hope Trion do introduce this Weapon XP reset feature because otherwise the game is contradicting what they are saying about creating your own unique gun, when you can't even use it
    to progress.

I didn't think about it like this, it's a very nice way to look it at. Thanks for sharing.

My appeal to this game was the variety of weapon systems, weapon xp progression, and synergy mods. But this game has fallen way short of what I was expecting. Orange weapons suck and aren't worth the effort or time to get them. Highly overrated.

I agree i love defiance but i wish you could pay like 10,000 script to reset legendary weapons . I thought about that also once it is leveled there is no point to use it, then one of my clan buddies said they are great max weapon to use in pvp .here is to woshing they had a reset lv. option on legendary weapons

Hey. So I understand that Legendaries are better but they're not that much better to justify buying tonnes of lockboxes, not to mention that when you finally get one you need to swap it out once you hit the XP cap for it.

If you're maxed out in the legendaries weapon proficiency, then fair enough. If your not, then there is no point making an effort trying to get one (in fact there is no point even opening lockboxes at all...) but if you're MEGA lucky and get one drop in-game for you, then yeah, use it and maybe keep it for later on.

Just my two scrip on this awful weapon system.

Nah, no facepalm required. None of my friends wanted them and I'd rather take a loss than deal with drama.
