Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II Review!
Where to begin? I picked up this game from a friend with rather high hopes, and I must say.. I am disappointed. The game has such a great idea, the most powerful force user there ever was. At lease, it was an idea. I quickly found myself getting stomped on by the larger enemies as I try to attack them, watching my force powers have no effect, even though slightly earlier I was ripping TIE fighters out of the sky. That incosistency is what ruined the game for me, it really did.
I never played the first game, and this is not a professional review so I will try just to speak my mind. First off, the game IS fun, if you want to toss people around like ragdolls. Even some of the fights against robots are very entertaining, the boss fights fun as well. I just couldn't get over this nagging feeling that something was missing. I never felt like the badass the game tells me that I am. Which was the selling point for me.
The story, while slightly interesting, was a complete waste on me, as I have not played the first. Although.. I will always hate these love interest in games and movies, It's not my cup of tea, and my super powered badass Starkiller's voice actor, completely ruined the feel.
The voice acting was another let down, Vaders voice was impressive, as usual. The rest of the cast really failed to impress however, Starkiller and his Jedi Master the main two. If I heard him tell me to do something one more time, while I was doing it, I was going to frisby the game disc across my house!
The graphics are amazing however, and the star attraction of this game. Everything looks beautiful, minus some minor things during some scripted sequence. Almost everything feels like a real object when you toss it, or break it, usually not on purpose. While speaking of tossing things around, the controls bugged me horribly, but I'll get to that later! The game had some fun appeal to it, but it couldn't save face, not with me however.
You need to take it for what it is, a game. If you want to goof off and destroy things, you may well enjoy this game, but don't grab it expecting a KOTOR level adventure.
On to the audio, the sound effects are iconic in The Force Unleashed II, the sound of blasters and light sabres, Vaders epic voice, the different robots and spacecraft throughout the game. I noticed a few slight Audio hiccups in my playthrough, but nothing to fault it for.
Controls.. I hate the controls in this game, I really do. Sometimes it was borderline frustrating when I couldn't grab the one thing or person I wanted to, with my powers. The lock on button was unnatural to me, as was the block button, those could very well be my own fault however so I try not to hold it against the game. The dash ability could have been done much better however, as I would constantly dash around the world and nothing else.
All in all Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II is a game that I wanted to enjoy, so badly. It had the greatest idea and amazing technology, but seemed little more then a very long tech demo. Some of you may like it, Some of you may not. It should be a rather cheap game now, considering how long it has been out.
I was considering doing a ranking system, as those are very popular, However I'm not sure. For now, I give this game a score of--
2 Out of 5.
The scoring system and review is purely my own opinion and no one elses, you very well may have your own experience with each game I review!
