In other news, I started the patch process and went off to start the diswasher and set up everything I need to make lunch, and when I get back what do I find?

It depends on lots of factors you know. depends on the factor of how many are downloadind at the time, congestion of the server and the server itself.
I`m in Europe and i don`t really know were the server is located, but yes i have a very fast internet compared to others. Good download and not so good upload comparing one to another ;)
