Brand new player. Some basic questions.
Hey everyone. I just bought the game yesterday and downloaded all of the patches. I played for about 2 hours last night and I'm feeling somewhat lost.

As a new player, I was given a pistol and a shotgun (after a quest or two). I entered the first area and saw quite a few players running around whom I assume were also new, because we were doing the same missions/quests together. However, everyone was using automatic weapons. All I had was a pistol and a shotgun.

After 2 hours, I haven't found any new guns from killing enemies. I got rewarded a nice sniper rifle for completing a mission, but still no automatic guns. I'm just wondering if I missed something.

Also, I'm confused as to these events that are constantly happening all over the place. I'll get in my vehicle and drive towards something, and an event will tell me to protect some people. So I will. I'll pass by a few minutes later and it asks me to do it again. Are these just optional events, or is my quest status bugged?

Lastly, where can I purchase weapons from a merchant? Are there weapon merchants? In the beginning area, there's a place where I can pick up free ammo and another place that seems to sell a random gun (I think) along with some shields and/or grenades. Is that the merchant?

As you can see, I'm pretty lost.

Oh, one more thing. What are the lockbox codes used for? I did a little bit of google "research" while at work today and saw a list of about 160 lockbox codes that could be entered on this site for some sort of reward. What are those used for?

If anyone has any resources that a new player like myself might benefit from, I'd be gracious.

    A. There is a main story line mission.
    B. There are numerous side missions you can complete for fun or towards pursuits which increase your ego.
    C. Those things that constantly happen are called emergencies and they pop up randomly. It's quick and easy XP.
    D. To acquire better weapons you can buy that at the supply vendor which also has a special deal or loot them off mobs. Also see E.
    E. Lockbox codes are used for buying tier boxes which contain weapons, shields or grenade mods. The rarity varies and orange is the best.

If you have anymore questions feel free to shoot me a PM.

    1) Dont worry you'll pick up some new weapons pretty quickly. Sometimes enemies drop them, sometimes you get rewarded them from missions.

    2) Those random events are called emergancies. They are optional side incidents. You dont have to do them if you dont want to.

    3) As you progress through the world you will find vendors in certain spots who sell weapons, mods, or vehicles.

    4) The codes you are talking about are arkfall codes. If you link your account on the Defiance website to your console (it tells you how to) you can (and should ;) ) enter these on the website and you'll get some nice benefits to your character, you only need to enter 120 to get all the bonuses. BTW these are different from keycodes.

First, welcome to Defiance Forums. I am on a tablet and cannot provide links right now. But on the main Defiance homepage there should be a link.

Welcome!!! This is a good game getting better with each patch.

    1. The game has a free play style, these "emergencies" you pass on the road don't have to be played, they are often part of "contracts" that you can do for exp and rewards. If you are on PS3 open your map or character screen select or start button. Then hold down L2 and a circle with new options pops up, explore these to learn more.

    2. Weapons: They shoud be dropping all over... But you can buy them at vendors. Vendors have a white icon that says "supplies" on your map, their are several near the start. You can also get them in lockbox vendors which are generally next to supply vendors.

    3. The codes online that you have found are game bonuses. On the defiance web site you can sign in as an arkhunter, once you do this you can link your arkhunter account to your console. enter the codes from the online sites to your arkhunter account, this unlocks things for console character. The unlocks will be found in the defiance store for free in the "claim items" area (you'll find the store with that L2 menu I mentioned earlier). I highly recommend you do this, there are lots of sites that will give you lists of all the codes you need, putting them in may take 10 mins, but the extra inventory slots really are a must have convienence thing.

Hope all this helps, most things you need to just google, but I found once I found out about the L2 menu things all started to come naturally.
