It's explained in the tv series. They see using pheromones and vibrations. Their sense of smell is their sight, pretty much. For example covering yourself in hellbug shtako makes you invisible to them.

I've only seen the pilot and Ep-2 where they went into the mine and discussed dagget food.

I must say, the acting in Ep-2 left me underwhelmed for more.
I'm sure they're excellent act-persons, and the director/writers suck, but I felt like there was no immediacy to the emergency of the situation.
Everybody was sleepwalking and dragging ***.
WTF?

I'll look for the bug answer if I can make myself watch another.
