Trion: WHY I won't buy the game after trying it via STEAM...

Just a friendly post to TRION WORLDS (thanks for the free week-end by the way ;))
This is the reason why I won't purchase the game after trying it...
First: I can't holster weapons - looks really dumb in 'peaceful' areas lol
BUT, my biggest issue: I can't rotate the camera around my character…unbelievable for a 2013 MMO.
I would understand in the case of a MMOFPS, but just like RIFT this game is 3rd person and I'm astonished I can't rotate the camera around my character.
So you have have nice outfits for sale in your cash shop, but what's the point??? Most front armor or helmets look nice but you only see the back of your character. I'm not going to buy something I can't see.
SO…I will just skip the game until it offers the most BASIC mmo option: a rotating camera.
Other than this - combat & vehicles looked promising, but I was really turned off by the lack of camera options.

PS: I googled the issue and found loads of complaints. I wish Trion Worlds would realize the lack of immersion for some, without the rotating camera. If they want this game to succeed they better fix this kind of things because it's a huge turn-off IMHO, I guess most people just don't take the time to visit the forums & write about this problem and uninstall / give-up...

your getting mad over a camera angle and idk about you but i can rotate it just fine to see the front of my character

I must admit that I do not like that you can't rotate around your character but you can when in your vehicle.

Is there a reason Trion has stated as to why it's like that?

Makes no sense and they need to fix that asap. You have a great point about wearing a certain outfit and not being able to move the camera around to look at it lol.

This probably won't change your opinion but... You can rotate the camera when your on/in a vehicle.

The only way to do it is to see it on the login screen, or hop on your ATV. You can't see the front of your character on foot unless you sprint and run in the direction of the camera.

If you're looking for a vanity camera in a MMOTPS, Global Agenda has that option.

Also in your equipment/loadout screen. But yes, that's rather limiting.

OMG, your only complaint is that you can't rotate the freaking camera? Are you serious?. I would kill if that was the only problem I have with this game. I'll trade the camera issue for not being able to add mod slots to orange weapons and having Trions servers kick me every 3-5 minutes or on load screens.

Out of all the problems with this game, you choose that one?

Perhaps for someone logging in for the first time there don't appear to be any others?

You can also rotate when sprinting, which is great for both seeing yourself and seeing what's chasing you. It's a strange effect, I get to admire my gear only when running away from something!

That or he isn't a high enough EGO level. Cause you know, locking out something like adding mod slots until a certain level is smart.

pffahhaahha.and this is the point?or may be u have just no money XD.and u can rotate the camera if u run.

Trion don't fix things they break things its fast becoming a joke

It does make sense when you think about it. When you're on foot, you're in combat mode. The camera moves your crosshairs around same as an FPS. You need to be able to look at what you're shooting. If you made it where you can rotate the camera around while you're on foot, you'd have people getting frustrated because they'd be trying to shoot at something in one direction but their camera's facing a different direction.

When you're in a vehicle, you're not in combat, you're not aiming crosshairs, you're completely controlling the vehicle with the thumbpad/stick/ASWD keys, so the mouse/other thumbpad/stick is free to move the camera around to look at your surroundings.

Could be timed to aiming your gun when shooting from the hip?

Honestly I've always found the fact that you run around with gun at the ready all the time rather odd. But then overall there's very little character animation and what there is of it (jumping, many of the cut-scene animations) isn't very well done.

As for being able to rotate the camera around your character, if I remember right there was a key setting for that early on, but it was removed for unknown reasons. It is odd not to have this feature, but then the game lacks so many features that this one isn't all that high on the list. To me, anyway, in my opinion outfits in this game are so generic that I don't even really notice them and can't even imagine paying real money for one -- let alone a lazy recolour.

One simple solution should be to add the option to holster weapon and allow players to freely rotate the cam.
They already have non combat walk and stand animation for npcs, adding them to the player's character shouldn't be hard

haha, the OP complaint reminds me of the people who quit Guild Wars 1 two seconds after getting into the game for the first time, because there was no jumping =D

if you really enjoyed the game, despite those minor issues, i would still highly recommened buying it now with a 30% discount. or wait til steam summer sales and save 50% or more. up to you...

I totally agree they should add a rotate view function. But to say "I won't buy the game because of this" seems a tad extreme. Also, don't forget that you can fully see your character in storyline cutscenes.

This game has been out for a while now...so i really dont think the reason ur not buying this game is because of the "camera angle" lmao u played the game over a 2 months later of it out on the shelf for FREEEEE and now u wanna bash the game HAHAHAA face it the real reason u dont have this game is cause u cant afford it I.E UR BROKEASS...have fun scrolling through the FREEEEEEE marketplace looking for that 10/10 game ull never buy either :)

Yea defiance a is a few gens behind IMo but its a basic mmo experience on consoles albeit that missing camera option is embarassingly present lol

This is one of the strangest deal breakers I've ever heard of.

I guess it would be a nice feature to have, but still.

I guess it's good to know what you want in a game, but those seem like really weird non-issues to me.
Admittedly, there's a lot of bugs and a few things I'd like to see, like either more weapon slots on a loadout or a faster way to change the loadout, but they don't detract from my enjoyment of the game.

Would be nice to have a menu thing to get a 3d character viewr that u could zoom in and out, like better version of the one when u change outfits. But i think the reason u cant rotate is because then when u look behind u, u can still move st full speed backwards. Also when u look at the font of ur toon and shot your toon would have to spin around instantly and that just feels dumb.
So in short its a gameplay element of having to move slow when walking backwards and also foe the sake of not having the insta spin thing that looks goofy.

Ps op the reason most mmos have this abd not defiance is mainly because its a shooter where the way youre looking is where ur aiming.

Well for me that is about the only thing I am upset about and I been playing since April 11th. Sorry but the last patched fixed a lot of things. Seemingly most of which no one cared about.

However for the casual player it is running great. Oh and I could care less about competitive pvp when I have yet to see ANY MMO pvp actually come close to being balanced.

I can see people using this to their advantage in PvP.. Seriously, how would you be able to use the element of surprise on someone thats just standing there to admire the frontal side of their character? With the current camera settings, you can tell when someone probably isn't looking your way. Unless they are running, ofcourse.

The person using the surprise tactic is in for a surprise themselves, if something like what you mentioned was implemented. It is great, when you don't think about the PvP side of the game; however, you cannot ignore either section of the game.

You can rotate the camera when you are on a vehicule or when you sprint.

Agreed on that one

I would suggest you wait a few more months before looking at this game again. Both the issues you had were begged for during alpha/beta and still no word. But that isn't why I'm suggesting you wait a while before trying again. If you didn't encounter any bugs on your play through I would be amazed. Trion seems to be having a lot of problems fixing these bugs and keeping them fixed.

It seems OP missed many other "features" of Defiance - like missing legs animation during rotation of character.
