I concur with this.

I see a lot of Fallout in it too, okay most of it that isn't borderlands. Difference is - isn't one of the devs from borderlands? So they brought content over on purpose? I am waiting to find out that borderlands IS in the Defiance universe after all... that might be our twist.
I know giving too much credit for creativeness to Defiance.
I see and tbh every game will have whiners because if someone is so much better than them they must be cheating/using over powered weapons/ lag switching or no lifes that live on the game because there is no other reason that someone could kill them that many times lol. I myself get frustrated with myself not others when I die and try to do better but I think I'm in a small percentage of players who do this. I used to rage from playing COD but I grew out of this and now I enjoy games a lot more :)
Pretty funny, as I always thought Borderlands copied so much from RAGE before either were released.
Personally I didn't mind Borderlands 1, was alrighty and had some fun on it, but not perfect and needed a lot of improvements in my eyes.
But I really dislike Borderlands 2, all the weapons aside from one or two were god awful looking, all handled awfully (neither game really had decent shooting mechanics) just overall felt awful to play, that compiled with getting screwed over with no decent loot, even the decent loot had no effect on enemies past a certain level. They made it just too hard to have fun with. You had to be at LEAST 2-4 levels above enemies otherwise you would not even have any effectiveness on enemies and it will be boring as ****.
So I think Defiance is a billion times better, sure it uses very similar ideas, but guess what, if an idea is good why not use it? Why is it such a crime to use the same rarity scale. It is something people already know of and understand and it is just going to make it easier for people to enjoy this game.
Aside from the region lock, Defiance is perfect, bugs here and there but overall all the guns look great and not unrealistically stupid, they feel really nice to fire and hit targets, and there is endless replayability which I always long for in games.
So yeah, Defiance > Borderlands.

Pretty much how I feel.
BL2 was ok while it lasted, but it's pretty clear once the main game was out the door the Devs didn't give a crap about it's development. The DLCs were weak and done by other companies, yada yada yada. I am having much more fun with this game.
I'm a big Borderlands fan and I know it had its faults but BL2 has just lost the feel I have for the franchise.
I would put Bordelands on a par with Defiance but I have played Borderlands for 3+ years and Defiance for 3+ weeks so my opinion could change.
Defiance is my first MMO and I'm really enjoying it although I hadn't felt the need to do the whole clan thing yet, I do enjoy the co op side of things onlive but the mod/hacking side of things has screwed that up.
At least its not so prolific with this game.
borderlands was such a broken game. could max out in one day by repeat failing a mission.. super easy to dupe super easy to hack items. this game is legendary compared to borderlands. any true gamer that enjoys the mmo variety knows exactly what i mean.
i enjoy both games for what they are.done borderlands to death but still play it with the new charecter, and with a new dlc comming will play it some more.
defiance is a great game, its evolving all the time so gliches an bugs are expected, the defiance dlc needs to come out soon to keep the interest and expand the game.
and thats all i got to say about that
As soon as I started playing Defiance, I thought of Borderlands. Many of the concepts, like colors for gear quality, are used in other games, but Borderlands and Defiance package the same concepts together to where they feel like twin games. I see this as a positive though, because I loved Borderlands. I'm glad to see this style of game continue.
Total legit mate. Its the hacking etc that spoilt the game and online play.
The point I was making is that BL1 and 2 are not MMO's and you called yourself a true gamer and didnt recognise that. How you can make that statement is nonsensical.
At the end of the day their all shoot **** and fetch this stuff games.
back on topic... two decades of gaming and I'd honestly be hard pressed to think up a single game that did not borrow an idea, or was influenced by, an earlier game. I think it's hilarious when someone says "x game ripped off y game", and equally funny when someone says "x game did not rip off y game".
And no, Defiance didn't steal directly from Borderlands. After all, what could they steal that did not belong to Borderlands to begin with? Catch my logic?
I like how my long winded post that explained why everything that was claimed to be "Stolen" from BL2 was removed from this thread.
Defiance is a MMO with thousands of players all together in the same world. Borderlands 2 is amazing but you can only play with 4 people at a time. There's no open world or feeling of epicness that Defiance gives me. That's why I play Defiance instead.
I prefer the experience of defiance but I like the weapons and loot in borderlands better. The weapons were actually unique and there is alot more variety in bl2 to me. I also like that higher levels actually mean something. A level 5 can't kill a level 50 in borderlands but in defiance an ego level 400 can actually kill a ego level 4000. The difference is minimal. Its more skill based which is fine. I would just like to get more for the grind than just a rating. I would like to have a character thats actually better than others. Just my opinion tho.
While it is true what you say that skill plays a major factor. There are a few diffrences between the 400 and 4000. Firstly that player has much much more experiance with the game and is likely to have more skill for it. Secondly that play has multiple loadouts and more perks making them more adaptable to situations. As well those perks and ego powers will be stronger as they will be maxed out. But yes a better player at 400 can beat a worse player at 4000. But if the two were equal the 4000 is going to take it most of the time.
Big difference between Defiance and Borderlands 2.
Defiance - "Well, I finished the story. Now it's time to work on ego and pursuits."
Borderlands 2 - "Well, I finished the story. What? I have to go through the same story 3 more times in order to get to level 61?"
This games awesome full stop, so is borderlands, and to those of you that are complaining about defiance quit crying just cause you keep getting denied by the lockboxes or getting kicked cause your lieing about your internet cause its that bad, my friend plays on 30mb connection and barely gets 15 but hers still plays smoothly ( cause she dons't have the **** on download ), so quit *****ing and just enjoy the game for what it is and im sure they'll bring dlc's out at some point after the 1st season finishes, to keep us playing whilst they work on season 2 :D Think everything i put there pretty much hits the nail on the head, just incase you didn't get the message, if its lagging, stop the **** :P
Thats a drastic over simplifactation. Yes plenty of people complain about this game. I do whenever I see somthing wrong with it IE the vehicle nerf making driving more of a pain then a pleasure. However all of my complaints are out of the hope that the game will improve. I dont agree with you at all that this game is "awesome". I dont think its the worst game I have ever played, and as I have paid for it and the season pass of DLC I have every intention of continuing to play hoping that I will love the game this becomes in time. Not just play it cause its easy and fun.
On the DLC issue and I can only speak for myself. I would say that they hype of patch 1.020 was part of the problem. We first heard of it on the website being called "Enter the Castithan" then on "Across the Badlands" Sledgehammer made mention of the new game mode seiges stating that it would be making a apperance posibly before the patch hit. When the patch notes were finally release ALL of the new content that was in was wittled down to zero. I understand that with the show tie in content will not come all at once. But to hear so much about all the new stuff on the way and get none of it? However after that horrible patch day to see no new content made me stop playing for most the week.
Your inclinded to love this game as is your right. People are inclinded to complain about it as is their right. But if trion trion talks about the bells and whistles of a patch? That patch better have some damn bells and whistles.
So some of you even DARE to mention glitches about Borderlands 2 (which are fixed), when talking about a comparison to Defiance??? Really? Usually my stopping point for the night on Defiance is when my game gets stuck in black screen while fast traveling, when I'm kicked off the server for the 5th time, freezes completely or when I've hit yet another arkfall battle with NO boss.
This Campaign was like 8 hours long with a Snore of a Story. Borderlands 2 had a 51 hour story. And sure half the DLCs were weak, but at least you could play for 500 hours before you were like, meh... I'm done.
How many of us have been doing the exact same pattern, for 1,000 levels on Defiance?
With NO real upgrade to your character. A lvl 500 is just as powerful as a lvl 5000 in MP MM.
And you want to talk DLC? Oooooooo I can play a Castithan. Oooooooo. And have about 2 more hours of new stuff to do, then resume then same old routine.
I'm surprised to even see the thread still up. I've not been on in over a week. Been playing other titles. I'm all in for the next Gen consoles. Xbox 360 Abandon Ship!
The game is a snore. From the beginning of both games, Defiance is a 5.5, BL2 is a 9.5. And Defiance gets annoying much faster.
They replaces slot machines with a box
One game is epic with amazing replay, DLC and longevity with Raid bosses.
The other will be lucky to survive the next few months unless the DLC contains worth while end game type content, not just grinding pursuits.
While I have enjoyed my repetitive Defiance-fest, these 2 games don't even come close to being comparable except in that they are both video games.
Any other takers?
Borderlands and defiance are both awsome games and I have spent many hours playing both of these outstanding games.
You forgot to mention both games end with the same line.
