If you think ffxiv is going to be the game that proves MMOs can play and look beautiful on the ps3 you're going to be sorely disappointed. Go have a look at the tour of eorzea video number 2. They show a few nice ps3 zones, then one which is super choppy, then no more, just PC.
The game is going to run on ps3 but it won't be amazing. That said, I'm still buying it on ps3, but my expectations are low.
I cannot wait for this game to come out, this is why im getting a ps3, for that game and FFX HD, im currently playing ffxi on my xbox trying out this new DLC, and loving it! i quit this game to go back to it
I too am really really excited for this game! As soon as this is out it's Farewell to Defiance unfortunately.
I wonder what people are planning to play as classes and all. :D
I payed and played ffxi for 6 years payed for multiple server transfers. I really want to play the game just don't know if I can get myself to pay a subscription again. I'm still angry for paying for a year of Swtor and that game was horrible.
Since MMO just means Massive Multiplayer Online, Defiance fits that definition. I think you are confusing MMO with MMORPG. Defiance has some RPG-like elements but is closer to Borderlands than Skyrim. Also, FFXIV had some major issues when it was first released. The issues got so bad that Square Enix shut it down and went back to the drawing board. Hopefully, when FFXIV re-launches, a majority of the issues that plagued it originally will have been resolved. I applied to be a FFXIV Beta tester (on PS3) but have not heard anything as of yet. I plan on giving the game a try. Whether or not I stick with FFXIV will depend upon how it is. People can complain about Defiance all they want, but at least there is no monthly fee for Defiance. Hopefully, Square Enix will offer some sort of discount if you pay for several months in advance. AFAIK, the basic monthly fee is $12.99 USD.Quote:

Defiance is fun, and free, makes a nice break from WoW. just the fact of Fantasy vs Sci-Fi is enough of a difference to continue to play both :)
a game that had a worse launch than defiance and was so bad the guy in charge resigned and the sub fee was dropped...

Not going to pre-order or look into it until a full review from someone I can relate to or I get into the ps3 beta that I signed up for. It looks good but looks and gameplay can be completely different when you're the one in control.
Also. This is not going to be like v1.0 at all. That version was a complete failure and they stopped all work on it to remake it. I am sure FFXIV v2.0 will be much better than it's original flop.
I played FFXIV during the bad phase. It really was lacking and wanting. When it went F2P and relaunched as version 1.0 I was very impressed it the game, changes made and leaps forward the new team had taken. Alpha tested and currently a Beta tester for ARR and lemme tell ya it's friggin amazing, from a pc/laptop point of view. Unsure about PS3 version as of yet. June 14th phase 3 of beta testing begins and the PS3 beta is supposed to open somewhere around there as well. All in all, very happy with the new build and looking forward to August 27th and the full launch of the game.
I was hyped for it, but then I sawthat it was a monthly fee of $14 per. I'll wait and see if the PS+ members get a discount. Getting furloughed so the monthly fee just kills it until September. I will definitely stick with Defiance!
