i'm talking about everything.. walking, running, rolling, attacking, blocking... every animation i've seen has been so slow and drawn out that i can't play more than a few minutes before i get bored.

You must find real-life boring too. Seriously bro, SERIOUSLY? Are you seriously serious, and I mean seriously? It's all part of the tone. This game is supposed to shock and scare the hairs off your scrote. That can't happen if you zip around like a fly on coke. Serious.

EDIT: Oh, and if you're using rolls, blocks, and parries correctly, they're lightning-quick.

Oh, I see what you mean. Run speed, rolling, etc. are based on weight vs. endurance. Wearing cloth armour and carrying a dagger you'll move and roll far faster than with iron or leather and a battleaxe. However, you can boost endurance (and carry weight exclusively) allowing you to fast roll in heavy armour also. With the dark wood grain ring (ninja flip ring) this becomes particularly evident, because turning cartwheels around your enemies in full plate is quite entertaining.

So, put points in Endurance up to 40, and get Havel's Ring for lightning fast heavy armour.

Here's some heavy armour ninja flipping.

Really the only advice is just take your time, don't rush into things you're not sure of because...well....you'll die. Awesome game though.

Question. I've acquired a Fire Keeper Soul. If I use it once, does that mean my Estus Flask permanently restores more HP? Or is it for a short amount of time?

It is permanent, and persists through ng+ playthroughs.

Yep. Personally, I think you'd be silly to not level it up. That's more or less the only real use for them!

Huge shield, lots of Poise, and learn to lure him into striking.

I fast-rolled and used soul arrow. Wasn't the easiest method, but it worked. Just about. Had to kill the dogs first with a melee weapon though.
