I'm more thinking the new persistent world like this.
Take Destructible mechanics like blowing up a building. Add that to an MMO.
Now say we have said building fully intact at the release of the game. Several days or weeks down the road and that nice looking building is nothing more than a skeleton and rubble. Thanks to people destroying things because they are there.
Further along we have a group of people decide to pick that same building and rebuild it into a Base or Outpost. Whatever floats your boat.
People fight over the base / outpost. It gets damaged and repaired. That's type of persistent i'm talking about.
Character data is evolving is one thing. Overall world persistent change is another.
Oh and Destiny isn't partnered with Sony i'll refer you to this.
