This game is often more fun when there's no one online, and that's scary
During the peak hours of the day, Defiance is fairly boring for me. I run around tagging arkfalls, then run off to do some random emergencies. Only when the server empties out do I actually actively participate in arkfalls, normally in situations where you can count on one hand how many players are there.

The reason is that this game has open world game elements where not knowing what you're doing actually affects the gameplay experience of other players. I think that's fairly unique, at the very least I can't think of another MMO I've personally played where simply being a newbie ruins the game for other players.

Arkfalls scale based on active players. A decent player won't have too much trouble taking on a major arkfall alone, because it's scaled for one person. The more people are there, the harder it gets, because you're bound to have a lower amount of people who know what they're doing than what it's actually scaled for.

Crystal destruction pre-falls are bad. Explosives kill skitterlings before they can bite the crystal, and what takes someone with a Wolfhound less than a minute to clear alone, turns into a 10 minutes slow grind. Scrapper falls are also annoying, because the difference between someone who uses ground pounders on prefalls->wolfhound on arms->pour everything into the core and someone who just uses whatever weapon is at hand is night and day.

There is a lot of talk about people leaving the game these days, and as such, I find it scary that the game experience in some cases improves the less players play it. That is in no way healthy for the life of the game, and the last thing we need right now is a fundamental game mechanic that chases people away

You it's not even noobs that ruin it, It's the idiots,
I had a guy today who WOULD NOT STOP killing the skitterlings at an arkfall and
no matter how much i tried to tell him you don't gain weapon XP from hellbugs at minor Arkfalls...

there are some people who think that getting the highest number of kills means they "win"

    just an observation

I thought it would be more politically correct to blame it on experience, but I have to say I've wondered about the intelligence of some player. It's hard to tell though, since Trion in its infinite stupidity designed to slap German and French players (who have a translated version of the game) onto the same server as those of us who speak English to some degree. Makes it hard to tell when you don't know if the person you're trying to help understands what you're saying

Experience or Ignorance are probably half of it. A lot of people like to troll or just do whatever they want regardless of how it affects other players. I actually like doing things like co ops and sieges with other people, since in co ops you can kick and in sieges even trolls help you progress. Arkfalls I enjoy maybe 2 out of 3. I wish I could kill players in PvE in this game sometimes, actually A LOT of times, I'd pay for that feature.

Also, a lot (if not most) of the skitterling massacres are the products of the major Arkfall pursuits. Of course there are also those players who just like annoying others and do it for fun.

Firing a BMG into the arkfall will still tag the bugs for the pursuit but usually won't kill them before they've bitten their little weakspot open.

No, that's rubbish. The pursuit is for killing (which you only get for getting the killshot), so by only hitting them you are not getting any progress - tagging only means you will get ammo/loot drops. And most importantly, skitterlings are ridiculously weak and yes, you will kill most of them before they get a chance to bite. Stop using the BMG on crystals or you are part of the problem.

There are those other major arkfalls where the main objective is to kill hellbugs. Not sure why people don't do what I did and use those arkfalls for progressing that pursuit...

why? because you're trying to regulate an unwritten "rule" on people who want to play the game their way. They paid their money and therefore can do whatever they please. don't like it move on to another location or get used to the idea. that's my opinion.

This same opinion is churned out on a regular basis and is still a ridiculous excuse for what is essentially griefing. You "playing it your way" f***s other people off. If you're happy with that, fine, we can't stop you but you're still making it less fun for everyone else.
