It's not, I've checked :( Then again, we dont have Syfy here or any channel airing Defiance.. so I watch defiance through... other means..

The real question is why didn't anyone in between the bay area and defiance get infected, like the caravan was going to do one continuous trek without stopping in between, no raiders or hellbugs or other animals to deal with? doubt it. Something spread by skin to skin contact or coming in contact with surfaces that people touched would've spread across every territory they stopped in.
Another question, who was patient zero? that's one thing that needs to be addressed in an outbreak scenario. A lot of missed opportunities with this plague.
Though to answer why they didn't show it in the episode, the same reason why sensoths look nothing like Torc. It would've taken a lot of effort to make people look like the afflicted.
its possible the sickness kills more people then it turns and the sickness was in the bay area much longer so many more people were infected. or they die soon after stage 4 (dont remember if this is something that was mentioned) and more people reached stage 4 in the bay area unrestrained while in the show they were tied to their beds at stage three or sedated so they dont become a risk when stage 4 is reached
My guess to this would be that it's simply irrelevant. It wouldn't be one of those shows/games where patient zero is some person who just keeps eluding the protagonists and is constantly running around spreading it. S/he was just as everyone else. Sick, dead, afflicted then dead (thanks to us)
killing zombie like people flooding the town would have taken precedence over finding the cure. i figure for story and time purposes, they had to just get it done
