Close-Up and Personal: SMG's vs Shotties vs Pistols
Your favorite, and why? Obviously you're going to carry all 3 for the extra/different ammo types, but what's your "go-to" weapon of choice when all hell breaks lose and you need to put the bad guys that are swarming you down quickly?

Shotgun for me; nothing like it for running 'n' gunning...near misses count! Played with the SMG and it was nice for using behind cover after my first few headshots from my sniper rifle; was a crit monster with headshots on full-auto. Had a pistol with knockdown ability...THAT proved useful on many occasions

But..once I grabbed ahold of that auto-shotgun, a double-tap from that ended things pretty rapidly. Had a 20-rd mag, quick reload time...pure adrenaline fun!

    Auto shotties all day.
And the magnum with knock back was bugged on ps3 for me. Shooting enemies with it would make them go into a fall animation for a few seconds and then just be standing there firing again.

Shotguns for me as well. Partly because i'm a lousy shot and partly because it reminds me of Tabula rasa :)
I did find myself using sniper and a burst assault rifle most of the time in beta. If enemies came to close i used a melee attack and a 3-round burst if needed.

I just love the LMG fired from the hip. Attach a scope to pick em off as they come running in and then just unleashed hell. High magazine capacity and a constant spray of bullets.

In this game it appears I'm a pistol guy. Drop a good sight/scope on it and it becomes my impromptu sniper rifle and fired from the hip it handles close range work like a champ. My primary loadout condensed to a full auto AR and a scoped semi-auto pistol of some variety on just about every character I built and tested in the beta. Most games I go sniper/shotgun but i just didn't get that feeling here. I mean sniper/shotty was fun and effective but for the playstyle that I felt was best for me, the pistol and AR just clicked.

My favorite had to be controlled-burst assault rifles. Most (of the few) that I came across had nice tight spreads and made it easy to conserve ammo.

I started with combat shotguns. I got a legendary orange pump shotgun from a lockbox and fell in love. Combined with all my cloak perks I could pretty much sneak up and 2 shot somebody from close range before they even knew what hit them. Secondary was a fully modded ar.

Fully automatic VBI assault rifle with a high capacity magazine and stabilization sight. Can still shoot accurately at a distance and packs a huge punch close quarters.

In the secondary I primarly used bolt action sniper rifle for most things. I simply loved headshotting a full magazine worth of enemies with that thing. And for arkfall events I swapped that out for a shotgun.

I carry LMG for General badassery, and Shottie for close up. Its particuarly effective at catching skitterlings mid flight

I fell in love with the Healer gun BMG? for epic arkfalls. but then that fits in with my usual MMO 'Groove' if you catch my drift.

That sounds like fun! How was range damage fall-off with the LMG? I noticed that Pistol/SMG even with a scope, had serious range issues; damage dropped FAST as range increased. With a bolt-action sniper rifle, if you can see 'em, you can kill them, often without aggro'ing others in the vicinity. Never really got to play much at long range with a scoped AR/LMG; how effective was that?
