It is transmedia, you accept that or you move on
The concept of having to do the slightest amount of work to fill in some gaps when watching the shows simply infuriates some people. Defiance is transmedia, you accept that or you move on.

Most sci-fi tv shows have some other insight into their universe, these days mostly just a website, but they exist and ignoring that and getting riled up solves none of your problems.

Definitely agree with this. I can understand for a couple of people who are in too tight a position money -wise to get the game - I got lucky and had a birthday in April so I was able to buy an Xbox. Although if you don't have the game most of the game content relating to the show is on YouTube anyway, so it's not too far a stretch.

Also, has anyone noticed (dunno if this is the same elsewhere but definitely for the UK) that Syfy hasn't promoted the game at all? I've seen Trion mention it so many times but the only thing Syfy UK has done is post a tiny ad on the side of the Defiance page - it just says "Buy now, PEGI 18" basically and doesn't even mention the game aspect. You would have thought the voice-over would say something like "the story continues over on the video game, available now" or something.

SyFy don't want to do that because fans willl buy the game play it (if they can) hate it, then discourage them from the show and hate on syfy for making them buy something thats broken.

They run ads for the game during every episode in the U.S., there are several links to the game site from the U.S. SyFy site, and they're the only place doing a giveaway that acknowledges that the console version exists (I'm looking at you, Trion...). Their most recent Viewer's Voice survey had a bunch of questions about the game.

    Conceit
While I cannot speak for across the pond, there are at least two full ads for the game per ep here in the US.

Yes I see tons of ads and the tie in ads for the car every episode.

I really feel like I'm not getting that much insight from the game into the tv show. I get far more details from random posters on tumbrl ( like the language guy ) and the Defiance website than I do from the game.

Yep. In the US its advertised often during the show and even during other shows.

Yeah, same thing I was going to mention.

Before release, the game didn't got a big advertisement and even after...underground style...Also in Europe,Syfy isn't a well known tv channel.

For me, everywhere I saw on UK gaming websites and other shopping sites I saw ads for Defiance, yet in the UK Syfy seem to be neglecting the game. Really weird here :L

I hate Sci-Fi (I hate that new name) for cancelling Eureka and other good shows, so they don't have to worry about me starting to hate them for (potentially) selling me a bad product. I've been there for years.

I just wonder when the next Sci-Fi TV Monster Movie is gonna be and if it'll be about a rip-off from Defiance or whatnot.

I never really got into that show to begin with. But did they cancel it or is it just running its course? I mean its been on for more than a few seasons.

This is the fourth season. It's getting a half season next year to wrap up the series. Personally, I'd have liked to see them get a full season to put them closer to ideal syndication numbers.

You have a point there playing the game keeps me from wanting to watch the show.

I have not seen anyone disgruntled over having to do the slightest amount of work because that's exactly what it is, a slight amount of work that ultimately can be disregarded because it's almost trivial. However, the transmedia experience has been extremely lacking. Game to show lacking makes sense, the season was already filmed. But show to game? it seems like they're barely putting any effort into it. One of the community managers said that season 2 episodic content will be changed to accommodate our feedback, we'll see how that goes.

Problem is the average viewer (the majority) won't play the game, join in on the podcast, or use the interactive thingy during the show. They know this. The goodies are for us the hardcore people who want to experience it if and when they can.

They do more on Twitter and Facebook (and tumblr) than anywhere it seems, that is where I see most of the information without having to interrupt first run shows with the syfy interactive tablet thingy.

Speaking of the tablet, it gets really annoying to see a game advertisement in the tablet right after seeing one on the show.

Also, the last episode with the interactive app, they said players were helping rynn combat a new hellbug problem, that has been over for weeks. And the launcher still says "find the cure" that has been over as well.

In the US it's promoted on SyFy all the time and there's an AXE commercial tie in as well. Also, used to see some Dodge commercial tie ins.
