The REAL Reward for Racing Pro: Never Having to Race Again

As I'm working my way through pursuits and such, I finally buckled down with a Level 20 Runner to finish up the races. I have to say, given how many times I had to restart races in the last few days because of multiple Hellbug Monarchs in the path that would simply swipe at me mid-jump and destroy the runner utterly, that I think the real reward for getting a gold in all of the races isn't the black Challenger (though it's nice). The real reward is never having to do another race across this landscape ever again. Between monarchs, houses and other obstacles that just pop-in out of nowhere due to crappy loading and draw distance, I'm SO glad that I don't have to do this crap again.

At least until they add a new region to the game, I suppose.

Am I alone in this feeling? By the end of that pursuit, I'm utterly burnt out on it.

lol Yeah. it's like the GW2 puzzles. The mechanics just don't really make that part of the game enjoyable.

I think this game could have instanced races where there's collision detection though. That would be a cool PvP feature. Or even in open world.
But time trial races are not the games strong points.

I race to clear all the time trials past days (silver medals). Not sure if I ever will make the Racing Pro as I'm as furious as you of the non-stop popping obstacles in middle race. It's a lottery if you make it through as sometimes you make it 2 laps only to explode in a spawning matron or arkfall/emergency. That makes you so mad you can't concentrate the next 2-3 races... During the Doge Challenge this happened to me constantly, arkfall popping up in middle of path or 99ers tunneling up in the middle of road.

Question, do you have to have lvl 20 to beat everything at gold? I'm not the best racer but it seems to big a gap from where I end up to gold to be just driving skills.... I remember in the beginning, had a hard time making some time trials until I reached lvl 8 for runners, then all of a sudden the boost bonus made it a breeze..

On one of them, I was about 5 seconds away from the finish and a Monarch rolled right into the path of my hannibal and destroyed it. FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

But yah, getting them done was great. I will say, the vehicle controls in this game are not that bad. It could have been much worse, just look at Borderlands...

I did it on 2 seperate toons. One at about 400 EGO so I could get into SF. Its annoying but I found the trick is run the course once to get an idea of the tight spots and other (live) obstacles and dont worry about your time. After that go for the gold. I one shot most of them.
Another thing to consider is the default control setup. I moved the boost key to my MOUSE 5 button and it made all the difference for me. I went from barely squeaking out silvers to getting consistent golds.
    Hope this helps

I've done it on 3 characters now. The first time was an absolute pain in the butt. The second time was my best effort so far and the third time i just did because i was bored at the time and a friend who can't manage to do any of the time trials was stirring me for not having it on all 3 of my characters, even though my 3rd one was on my Chalkie-to-be whom already has the (amusingly) bright white Dodge.

My advice, take the time to learn the track, make liberal use of the restart button on the world map and only do as much of it as you can per session...as soon as it starts irritating you, go shoot stuff...it's therapeutic! No real rush to get it after all.

Thank f**k I did them all before any nerfs to vehicles were made.

Memorize when to brake, when not to accelerate, and when to go full ****** on the boost key. That's what the challenge was (that, and beating the lag time that added +5 or so seconds to your time).

Do you have to be level 20? No.

Being higher level does help because boost time is extended and boost recharge time is shortened. All bonuses related to driving improve, which makes it a little easier.

    +1 to the OP

The moment when I finally got gold in the last of the races was the biggest feeling of relief i've had in a long time

Most of the races were just iritating
There are only 10 types of people in this world...
Those that understand binary and those that don't.
