It CAN be patched and updated and have DLC and everything.

I'm saying that even a PC can't have a patch done online when they play online? Correct me if I'm wrong (and it's very possible I am), but don't online games go offline every now and then because of patches, whether your on a PC or an Xbox, or a PS3? I could be completely wrong. I'm not trying to be sarcastic (unless I'm right. haha).

Usually for Xbox when you start the game after you sign into live. You well get a message that there is an update available for that game. It signs you out of live while it updates then signs you back in after the update is done and you carry own with your game.

So I'm not far off base here. That's kinda what I figured. If I were a less mature person I might say "I told you so," or stick my tongue out at people and do the whole "nyah nyah" thing, or do both. However, I won't...I'll just do it on the inside.

From what im reading right now, Defiance hasn't gone "gold" yet, so it isn't in stores currently. And this beta can be alot better with server updates. Our CD is the client with login information, We connect to the server that downloads more updates (data) in which we play on,

The games/movies are usually shipped into stores 4-7 days before release in which the reps do not display until "official release".

    Source: retail experience.

Rob Hill in IGN video also said they expect a patch on day one because of the lead time.
    So...
1.) They're way ahead of this build already.
2.) They can continue adding and patching indefinitely forever. That's the intention. How else can they have elements of the show get into the game on the fly.

I've played on the original Xbox, starting with Halo. There will be a pretty big day one patch.

The game went 'gold' [into production] about a month ago. Microsoft, for example, has to give it's corporate blessing to to any game releases and DLCs. This requires a certification process that can take a month or more.

I expect a few early patches for a game of this complexity and ambition. For example, Bethesda games are always patched up the wazoo after release, and then the patches have to patched sometimes [Skyrim].

I expect patches, and look forward to them, because they show that the developers are trying to improve their product. There are no perfect games, and the bigger the game the more potential for issues. Thus patches.

The base mechanics of this game [shooting] work well for me, so I am looking forward to it. I have about 20 hours into the beta test and generally like what I have experienced so far. I did pre-order the game also.

Know it all's like you crack me up? How do you KNOW that the game has already been shipped to stores? That's right, you don't. But to answer your question, its a thing called a patch. That's how devs add content and fix bugs to already shipped games.
