How do you see Defiance's longevity?

Pre-ordered it , played both betas and don't really like it. Many little different things that add up to my feeling of disappointment. But I will play it and hope that my feelings will change with game time.
But the more I think about it, the more I wonder how Defiance will attain large player base for long time?

Do they even want a large players base for a long time? Or are they calculating on a continuous flow of new and returning players that will play for few weeks.
Do they see Defiance as some sort of e-sport game?
What do you think will be the biggest reason for people to stay and play for a long time?

My guess is that after the big hype Defiance becomes kind of a niche MMO just like Rift, but I'm okay with that.

I think at first game will have a decent amount of player then as word gets out it will be over flowing then die back down esp if they keep moders out .

I hope it goes for at least as long as the TV show. I hope they both last a long time. I hope that's not asking too much. I will certainly be watching the show. Syfy has had some great ones.

i would prefer defiance to remain a niche MMOTPS. yes ofc having a healthy playerbase is vital.

why do i say this ?

lets look at WoW in the early stages of its life. it started of as a niche that only pc nerds played (and it was the best time ever ) then it became mainstreem got sold to activision and become the horrid panda loving game it is today.

back when it was a niche game (vanila and TBC) was alot of fun, then by the end of WOTLK it got bloated with casuals, and cata reasigned the game for casuals. and now panda expansion (do i really need to say more).

so all in all a niche game caters to its playerbase to keep them, mainstream only cares for more and more and ignores its older (and perhaps founding) player base.

i for 1 hve wanted an MMOTPS for a very long time that is PVE focused, if i want to kill players i just play BF3 /TF2/space marine .

also look at guildwars 1. how long that lasted as buy to play + cash store

I see it going kinda the direction of Rift. Starts big and as the newness wears off fall back to a core group that play it regularly. Gamers in general tend to flock to the newest and shiniest things then move on.

No flocking to the newest shiniest thing--squirrel!

Actually, I plan to stay here for quite some time. It would take a lot to get me to leave. For example, if the game shut down, I would leave.

I think its fate, particularly regarding the quantity and types of people that play it, will be closely related to the popularity of the TV show.

I do infact like this game has some really nice concepts but for longevity im not sure it will remain a large game..there isnt much "keeping" people here. like in rift you have dungeons and experts and raids...here you only have arkfalls which are really the same as rifts..how many hours a day can you spam rifts lets be honest..also no crafting system no trade system no barter sytem at all..what drops for you is what you get..that doesn't seem to help "build" a cummunity. Also it seems havent really had to to much experience with this but seem when you kill a major ark raid type thing the loot just drops and anyone can loot(like diablo 2) that sorta thing won't fly.Now lets look at the "classes" thats such a loose term cause is there really really any? everyone has the choice of the same abilities there seems to be zero diff in a surv or a vet or a eng not even a beginning + to a wep type. so not sure what there intent was there. As i said thou i do really really like the game but i cant see myself playing it like i played rift or like i played wow or EQ1. to me its like boarderlands i played it till i got board and then shelved it till i got the itch to play agian. Def not trying to bash the game these are just some of the issues i feel will prevent the game from sustaining long term players.
