I see it lasting for a while. There is no subscription fee, so that helps retain people who otherwise are on the fence and trying to decide whether to stay. The microtransactions in the in-game store will generate quite a bit of money for Trion. There is nothing really game-breaking in there, mostly just some temporary boosts, lockboxes and fluff. However, many people love fluff and will keep pumping out the money for vehicles and outfits.

why do i say this ?

lets look at WoW in the early stages of its life. it started of as a niche that only pc nerds played (and it was the best time ever ) then it became mainstreem got sold to activision and become the horrid panda loving game it is today.

back when it was a niche game (vanila and TBC) was alot of fun, then by the end of WOTLK it got bloated with casuals, and cata reasigned the game for casuals. and now panda expansion (do i really need to say more).

so all in all a niche game caters to its playerbase to keep them, mainstream only cares for more and more and ignores its older (and perhaps founding) player base.

i for 1 hve wanted an MMOTPS for a very long time that is PVE focused, if i want to kill players i just play BF3 /TF2/space marine .

also look at guildwars 1. how long that lasted as buy to play + cash store
roflmfa, was a WoW player for 7++yrs, an I agree the panda propaganda used to cull the children into a mature (lol, rating based that is) gamer haven killed it for me. I do hope this multiplatform mmorg does crossovers an all the syfy nerds/geeks or whatever we're called now kill off all the trolls & azhats an become a learning an enjoyable experience (just like vanilla&TBC was). Nice Kirix ty

Hope this information can brighten your dimming interests :P but then again release should reveal much more i think
if the non stealing is true, its already got my invested interests. thank you exxcess

Most people who get this game will already be a sci-fi and "Syfy" fan. They will be enthused about it and be willing to stick with it. It looks like a great show, with a huge scope, and the game looks like it will match it. I think as long as the show is alive, the game will have a good fan base. I think even after the show goes away (hopefully it won't be for a long time), there will still be a good base.
    yeah I Agree

I wouldn't even mind if they threw something into the game every now and then (not too often) that was like one of their cheesy movies. Know what I mean? Like "Sharktopus." Just something that was a very brief, but cheesy event or something. After all, it's "Syfy." That's one of their signature things, right? Like I said, if it only was a rare thing, it might be funny, enjoyable, and kinda cool maybe. Fans of the network would "get it" I think, and find it funny, like I said. It would just need to be a very, very rare thing. If the game takes place all around San Francisco, why not have a mutant shark attack or some weird thing like a flying piranha attack or something? Throw in some strange random thing, even if it istn't directly connected to "Defiance." Myself, I think it might be kinda cool, but that's coming from a big "Syfy" fan. I love their cheesy movies. After all, the main fan base would be from "Syfy" fans, right?
"I am not infantile, you stinky-butt poophead." Hehe.
