Some people do still have issues with this. Nice post. I would suggest a Cluster shot in place of the Canker. It keeps the smaller guys stunned so they wont shoot.

Troopers - Use the cars for cover.
Bombers - Just keep moving and don't stop.
Viscera - If he glows blue or red, roll to the side.

After 5 minutes they stopped being really difficult for me (still bothersome to solo though sometimes). I used an AR as my primary (and basically only used that). Just make sure you're hitting the head for crit damage and you'll be fine

Same here. They are bothersome solo. Which is the only way I have been fighting them so far. I would love to have some help now and then. Fighting any enemy in this game is bothersome when ya don't have any friends along. But thanks to the OP for the tip. Haven't tried any Infector on them but am gonna give it a try.

Weapon Slot 1: VBI INF-3 Canker

I start out using this, usually picking one target to focus on at a time. Keep moving and empty atleast 1 clip into your target. The weapon's description is: "Does not spawn parasites, but infections deal increasing damage over time." These things do ridiculous damage and really eat away at the Volge. The "Does not spawn parasites" part isnt completely true, because after the target dies, bugs spawn and attack any enemies nearby. After I empty a clip, I then, switch to:

Weapon Slot 2: FRC Sub-Carbine with Syphon

Not alot of people like the sub-carbines because theyre burst fire, but theyre my personal favorite guns in the game. They do great damage (235) and shoot out 5 bullets a trigger pull. Paired with a fire rate roll and Falloff DMG +8 you can keep a safe distance from the Volge and still do monster damage, and get those bullets out each trigger pull faster.
This weapon is going to keep you alive. For those that dont know, Syphon takes their shields and health and gives it to you. While the infection from your Canker is eating away at the Volge, take this out to deal even MORE damage and keep your health and shields up at the same time.
Im sure any gun with syphon will work for this part but the sub-carbine is my personal choice. Youll tear through Volge emergencies with little to no trouble.

Hope this helps guys! Would be interested to see other people's combinations.
Thanks! First time I bumped into these bad boys I died about 5 times before I had to switch to a PVP loadout to deal with them lol.
"Ah my God, you've been shot! Did you get a look at the handsome rouge who did it?"
