Team based games are far more interesting to me and I like to play the healer role, so his attitude bugs me. I'll be using Overcharge and Decoy mostly, but I'm not sure which one I'll start with. Decoy for when I'm healing though.
In my previous mmorpg i was 1st mage, then roled a dwarf. I love dark damage and DoT's, plus battle Rez. I was very useful in parties, and i remember a boss fight that took 35min, because boss would continuosly aoe and there was always somebody who didnt watch the cast bar and was either to close or didnt pot in time. Every type of dps has a role in boss fights, priests and druids have their roles, hybrids have theirs, it all works.

Such epic boss fights, now i guess i have to bring it down a notch in Defiance, cant wait

I had a human druid and a barbarian shaman in PS2's Everquest Online Adventures. I ended up playing the shaman more because of his pet, and had several different sets of gear depending on my role. I could be the primary or secondary healer and do a decent amount of damage, mainly because of my pet but also because I was a werelion. My debuffs had damage over time so I had to be careful with them in case I had to root anything. Good times.

One thing I think that needs to be addressed is that this game is about killing stuff as fast as possible and survival. Find a way to not burden your group with fiinding and rezzing you while doing as much damage as possible. To that end, the idea is to play to your strengths. Example: Some players have a secondsight that just lets them move out of danger faster than anyone else. if they are able to do damage at I high rate, they can focus on Perks that are pure damage in nature. Me, I'm a turtle and play like a Krogan in ME..LOL. I need to take perks that enhance shields, damage resist and damage after shields regen. There is a perk for faster self-rez and one for continuous health regen. My point to all this is that killing stuff and staying on your feet to put ordnance on target is the object, period. How you have to do that to maximize your play skills or style, is the way you should set the perks. There are ones that don't make sense together, like reduce the probability of getting caught in an explosion and the other is a buff when you are hit by one. A discussion for this game as though it were a traditional MMO is rather difficult to fathom. It's very unique that way. Anyway, hope the point isn't lost. spec to your playstyle, stay alive and kill-the-effers fast.
