I always check the radar when I'm driving somewhere... and this is what I look for. Given the render time for most emergencies, you need to check the radar ahead of you to know what to expect.

Have fun playing something else. Make sure its something easy though, like Hello Kitty's Cakeland Adventure. Wouldn't want you to actually have to use your brain. God forbid.
Haha, are you saying that Defiance needs one to use their brain? Everything in the game can be solo'd on accident.
Careful, you might loose this fight, Anne Frankly why does everybody have to bring up the Nazis?

That's the thing-- they have the right philosophy, but they implemented it so poorly players can't see it. So they ask for other genres to get copy/pasted over.

And Boom there's the problem labeled right there.
Because Defiance has been pretty much a walkthrough with little concentration needed, people have gotten used to that. So when something comes along that's abit more of a challenge (eg: the Volge or Nim), they struggle to cope with the enhanced difficulty.

Basically to win you've gotta use your noggin. One does not simply charge at the Volge guns blazing and expects to live. I find using a quick recharge shield, a SAW for good damage and a Mass Cannon that I can use as an artillery weapon is a good combination. And of course LOTS of cover, 3 shots from a Trooper is no shield, 3 more and your down n crawling.
To sum up in 3 words:

I was not aware that you had the intelligence to do so. I've certainly not seen it in your replies to this thread, though I applaud your seemingly passive aggressive approach.

I am generally nice to people, but blatant ignorance or willingness to change/experiment earns my sarcastic, snide remarks. You understand I'm sure.

In some cases, yea, you kind of need to think a little, like, would it be better for me to sit in one spot and pour rounds into that Volge Bomber with my SAW and hope that I don't die before he does (which 95% of players will) or should I keep on the move and target him first?

You get my point. There's a difference between ignorance and blind stupidity. Half of the playerbase seems to have the latter.

Well, ive seen 4 people "simply charge at the Volge guns blazing" and finish them off. No coordination at all, just a rolfpwn. Of course, you could gather 20 of your best men, apply strategy to a situation that doesn't need it then turn and say "simply charge at the Volge guns blazing" could work too!

Sorta like using strat in hopscotch. Haha, sometimes we kid ourselves. Sometimes we think "Wow, hes a tuff one, lets figure out the best way to defeat this foe", only to have some random come by and gaggle fuq solo the challenge with no effort at all. Its not a "Hes more skilled person" kinda thing. Its a lot more simple than that. Its just the main fact that in the situation that you actually need comrades (co-op, arkfalls) you really don't.

Then we convince ourselves that the game really requires skill and thought, when it really doesn't! I was solo'in co-op mission (with help from friends ofcourse) with the bare minimum gear and weapon, at the required ego level, weres the challenge? We were duo'in arkfalls (yes I know they scale) at 150ego at the wee hours of the night, killed Nim after I rushed through the story (on purpose) with a white weapon with no mods, and all white stuff, again weres the challenge?

Ive done all of that before even hitting ego 500, so now I get to kill 10,000 mobs for a chance to get 15ego (oh joy!). The best way I can explain it is, from the moment I created my toon, I was winning, even when I died, I was winning. I don't have to grind for gear, they're handing it to me on a platter. I didn't even need purple or orange gear, blue was fine to rolfpwn this whole game.

That my friend, breeds boredom, and laziness.

*edit* If you see a burned out car in the middle of the road, it's usually the first element to render, get off the road. If you see smoke don't drive toward the smoke. Aim a little to the left and bolt for the first bit of cover you find. You should be fine.

Here's a suggestion. If you don't belong to a clan, at an arkfall or at some place where people are grouped ask if people want to go Volge hunting and form a caravan. Look out for each other with someone distracting the Volge if someone needs reviving.

If you are alone, look for the emergencies with "helper items"-the rocket launchers or the turrets and/or the NPCs. Revive the NPCs so they will distract the Volge. Lure the Volge in front of the turrets and not to areas where the turrets are blocked.

I could say equip the right weapons but it's a lot about tactics and less about weapons. I will say if you have the Infector Grenade USE IT. The bugs distract them and do decent damage to them-their shields. Use cover. It's best not to start shooting if you don't have good cover or if you cannot reasonably take down a couple of the first ones before dying. Cloak is not that good-they are better at detecting you when cloaked than Dark Matter is.

Lateral moves often but don't always work far better than anything else, especially with Bombers (large lateral AOE though) and the Viscera (but he can change direction). Anticipate their moves.

Why I say weapons aren't the main thing-I've defeated them with BMGs, Bolters, Infectors, Flare Guns, SAWS, Wolfhounds, semi auto snipers, detonators, clustershots, couriers, and so on, some more easily than others. For instance a syphon SAW with overcharge (ammo and damage perks) and a back up flare or infector and the infector grenade work the best but don't always save my behind. I still have to use cover effectively, be careful to drag multiple Volges around the same side of that cover (so they can't flank me), and use my main and back up attacks effectively. And I try to never shoot at the Viscera for too long.

Try for the criticals. With a BMG hitting a Viscera in the face does about ten times the damage as any other spot. Bombers have hit spots on their backs and so on.

I've done a lot of solo and team volge hunting and I still get caught by them, but I can increase my chances by using these tactics. Another thing is to mark the location of the emergency so you don't lose drops you already earned and can easily find them if you die-before attempting to attack the volge.
