If you want a good laugh I would recommend the Armageddon Trilogy by Robert Rankin. "Armageddon the Musical", They came and ate us(Armageddon II: the B movie)" and "The suburban book of the dead(Armageddon III: the Remake)".

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan is pretty good..
Y'know.. I really enjoyed the Battle Royale movies, but I have yet to read the book xD lol
