First off Defiance is where the former city of St. Louis is now, on the other side of the Badlands away from the most concentrated area of ark fall material on the North American continent, the former San Francisco Bay area. Now if you look at the scenery around the area there are farms and other places trying to start the ground work for building a city, a community in the area, but the constant threats: raiders, hellbugs (in abundance), EMC mutants, and numerous other deadly obstacles have made this progress slow going.
The Bay area is kind of like California during the Gold Rush in the 40s, there is profit to be made but it's dangerous work. So only little area pop up here and there to service 'civil' needs over established towns, for the moment.
As for scenery, the show and game do a great job in having items made of the same materials, the same style of rag-tag construction, and various animals and flora when they are amongst the Badlands element or town in general. The only thing that feels out of place imo is the weaponry, they use standard armament in the show except for Nolan, which they try to explain by saying he's an ark hunter, a scavenger.
The two tie together beautiful within their own frame work in the universe they have created, so honestly I don't understand your request from this thread or the last.
And as for tie-in content:
- Mention of Mirin as location to latest baddie on the show
- Hellbugs
- Plague
- The opening scene with the 'what-ma-call-it' for the terra sphere
- Data Recorders that tie characters in-game with the show
- Rynn cross over
- Name dropping enemies from game in the show, sometimes with some humor
- Name dropping NPCs from the game into the show, sometimes with a hint of things to come in-game
If your playing the game you get much more out of the show, an understanding of how deadly and sparse the world is the show takes place in. Understanding of names and locations mentioned in the show that over viewers may not understand til much much later if at all.
Amanda Rosewater was once part of the E-Rep machine, she left as she felt they were not doing right by the people, she saw the corruption within. There are probably more people like this in the E-Rep, but the E-Rep has a desire for Defiance due to the nature of what they believe lies there: power of alien technology. When governments with military power want something they tend to get it and without a source to balance that power they will have little to no resistance. I mean the E-Rep seems like a militant government that while 'at peace' with the Votan Collective is more interested in making sure if they need to fight again they have everything they need to win, a culture of paranoia and fear versus the Defiance one of hope and understanding.
Also the E-Rep in the game are no saints, yea you get points to bail them out of stuff, but the missions they give you typically involve consolidating ground for defense or tactical purposes. And in one case they have you gather and destroy potentially damning information regarding early EMC (pre E-Rep) experiments or actions. I believe Capt. Grant comes from the 'Defiant Few' school of thought, if you see the note it states he gave up promotions to stay in the field, why would he do this? I believe cause he feels it is where he could most make a difference. His interaction with you 'the Ark Hunter' do not change based on your race, he judges you first on your profession and employer then changes his standing as he sees you serving the greater good.
E-Rep is a mixed bag, not a bunch of saints but certainly not all the demons either.
