Apparently The game was never supposed to look like the show?, So why bother?!

So reading response too one of my threads which will be linked in here about how the fact the game looks nothing like the show because it doesn't absolutely no relation not one nothing, every single thing in the show is completely unrelated to the game.

So it brings this question to mind, why is trion even bothering to bring in tie in content?, because honestly the content is bad anyway why not just add the stuff that's needed to make this game better, enjoyable etc.
For some unknown reason the game was never supposed too look like the show ever!?.

    PANDORA'S BOX SYNDROME

The devs of the show made this interesting diverse world where aliens live among each other in civil rivalry, and the city they live in is being re-built from the ground up and is under constant threat from outsiders, Volge, E-Rep etc.

So what I'm getting at is why bother showing us this amazing tv show and then saying we can't have any of the good stuff in the game?!, but it's annoying because if I had never seen the show I wouldn't want this stuff in the game and I would just quite end of but because I can see how great the game can actually become because of things that can be extracted from the show and put into the game.

If we had a city and there was more tie in content we could take part in the events for example protecting the city from the volge.

    Yours Sincerely GC DakotaHeart

First of all, let me say that I totally agree with you about the city. Sure there are small towns scattered around the Bay Area and Paradise, but nothing whatsoever in the scale of the city of Defiance. It would be AWESOME to have a bustling commune in our game. We could have picked up quests from NPC's, participated with OUR votes during the season finale's mayoral race to influence who would win, and much much more.

However to sit there and say that there is nothing that translates from show to game is completely inaccurate. There is tons of material that is in both mediums. Hellbugs, alien races, weapon types, the vehicles, factions such as the E-Rep to name a few. The episode mission I have heard the most people complain about (Launching The Cure) is arguably the one that ties in most with the show, seeing as how Nolan and Amanda's ex-bf had to actually go retrieve the canister of the cure that WE sent them. I agree there could be more, but to say there isn't any is plain wrong.

Other than a full blown city the size of Defiance for the game, there are two things I would like to see and one thing that leaves me scratching my head.

I would love to see Dark Matter soldiers make an appearance in the TV show. They had some really cool CGI effects to make the hellbugs and the matron so I know they could do something sweet with Dark Matter if make-up just doesn't get it done.

I would have also loved to see something happen in the game, similar to what happened to Irisa near the end of season 1 with the artifacts. That just seemed like it could have been perfect for the video game. Even if it didn't happen to your arkhunter, it would have been cool to have been fighting against another version of the "Devouring Mother", since it seems as if Irisa will choose a more vilified path. And than the two could meet up and wage epic battle in Season Two!! Just my thoughts...

The one thing I don't understand is the stance of the E-Rep. Sure, they are trying to take over Defiance but the game and the show paints two entirely different pictures of this organization. In the game, you are helping the E-Rep throughout the entirety!! It makes them seem genuine and, more or less, part of the good guys team. The TV show makes them seem evil and devious. Maybe they are trying to go for different points of view, but I don't agree with that. Now it makes me feel like half of what I did in the game helped give them more power to unleash their evil plans in the show. Not what I was going for.

In season 2 i would love it if Datak Tarr contacts the Voltanis Collective for help and they send dark matter to defiance. It would make for a tense build up to the season 2 finale Dark Matter VS E-Rep VS Nolan, EX-mayor Rosewater and the citizens of Defiance fighting for control of the town.

I'd like to see a city in the game, but at the same time both SyFy and Trion made it clear from the beginning this is a unique media venture and experiment. They want what happens in the show to take place and influence the game and vice versa. That said, that also requires bunny-hopping infector-spamming, grenade launching noobs to be allowed nowhere near Defiance.

It really comes down to the differences between small town life and life on the new frontier. Life in the town of Defiance is pretty routine and relatively safe in the grand scheme of things. They can worry about things like elections and make a big fuss about celebrities coming through town. Sure they get a Volge or hellbug attack every so often and that's a big deal to them, but for those of us in the Bay area it's just another Monday afternoon. Large settlements mean large targets for every Raider, 99er, and Nim wannabe we have on the west coast and while you might feel pretty wearing the latest fashions, how are you going to feel when some hellbug spits up all over you?

Seriously though, it's been said at least once that they recognize the need for a social hub for players and intend to add one, but it's not high on the priority list since they are trying to focus on pushing more content into the game. Apparently the Crater and one other location (can't remember which) were originally created to serve as social hubs, but as development moved forward they ended up becoming mission hubs.

I don't know...take that shot from the shows title sequence that over looks Defiance with the wind turbines etc. in the background and that looks very similar to the landscapes (albeit more urbanised) of the game. Also some shots of the mine in the series are very similar looking to mines that you visit in game.

There have been a few instances in the series that made me think of missions from the game. For example Nolan taking on the Echelon troops to rescue Irisa played out very much like something from the game. Racing towards the E-Rep roadblock to collect the plague cure felt to me like one of the object collection missions. Rynn saving Nolan and Rosewater while they were pinned down at the land coach was rather like encountering an emergency in the game.

If you take your time to look the is a huge amount of crossover and reference between the two...that is what has drawn me to the series/game and what keeps me watching/playing

But I do agree: yes the game needs more of a social hub and I'm hoping that one of these 5 fabled DLC will open up some of the masses of un-used area on the map to contain this...it's certainly something that Trion have already acknowledged the need for... But these things take time...

Well that makes even less sense bro. I haven't been to either locale in real life, but I can only imagine that St. Louis and San Francisco share little to no similar qualities in the form of the scenery they offer. They are two completely different regions that would be separated by 100's of miles. I live in Texas and Louisiana is right next door, but when you cross that state line it almost like entering an entire different world. Plus, various parts of the world were terraformed so they are going to look like barren wastelands, and in the few instances where Nolan ventures outside of Defiance, that is accurately portrayed.

I'm not trying to pick on you or talk smack, really I'm not. And maybe you have never left the state/region that you live in. But if everything looked exactly the same, it wouldn't feel genuine in my opinion. The terraforming that originally happened did not work the way the Votans had intended it to, so basically that means some places got more screwed up than others, and some places (like Paradise) didn't really get affected at all.
