PC NA - Oceanic - PvP Etiquette

This goes out to all the strong PvP players on PC NA during the Oceanic evening.
    You know who you are.

PvP matches just don't pop during our prime playing hours.
That sucks since some of us actually just enjoy PvP.
But it also makes it impossible to complete daily echelon contracts sometimes.
    Especially if it's freight yard.

Well, maybe more people would PvP if you weren't smashing faces so hard.
Low risk arkfalls for XP and Keys... or go PvP and..
    - get one shotted by cloakers from behind...
    - face bunny hopping infector users...
    - go against 4K characters running in groups...

PvP isn't fun when you're completely dominating or being dominated by the other team.
It might be funny once or twice.. when you have to take additional risks since you're competing for kills.
But it's quite telling when your own clan members / friends decide they want to queue for whatever map you're not in.

So maybe try out some other builds / ego powers during these hours?
Or if you're still going to cloak shotgun people... save it for the other strong players only?
Cos that is totally demoralizing on the receiving end when you're not at equal level.

I personally have no qualms against any PvP tactic or strategy at the 4K tier when i'm on my main toon that is also 4K. I'll cop cloaked shotguns to the face, because sometimes that's the only way to take out other 4K players.

But man... imagine being one the receiving end of that at 500 Ego... repeatedly... because you want to get started on your PvP pursuits. You'll just write off all the PvP pursuits and never PvP again. The only material reason to PvP in this game is for the Echelon titles and Ark Predator suit. You can reach 5K ego without PvP. Maybe not now, but with DLC pursuits that add ego levels, you'll be able to reach 5K fine without touching PvP.

If we want to nurture the PvP scene during our prime playing time, It's up to the strong players to promote it.
The weak can't suddenly become strong to compete.. the strong have to hold back to match the weak.
In the end.. we're the ones that suffer if we don't.

I too would like to see the PvP population expand. However, while I'm all for the spirit of PvP etiquette, I can't see a solution that relies on player morality being very effective as I see it mostly a system issue.

The PvP system as it stands plays too much a role in the performance and, more importantly, enjoyment gap. It's designed to reward those who are skilled, perked, and geared. There's a good chance that high-ego players in PvP have the latter two while low-ego players will most-assuredly not. And until it changes from a system in which you get better by simply "getting better" MORE than you get better by grinding for perks/gear, then I'm afraid it'll always remain a niche, non-growing (in terms of % of population) segment of players. After all, what's less empowering than being one-shotted by a cloaker in your first match?

Ah Chili, you should have been on tonight.
    PvP was popping like crazy.
    Very minimal wait between rounds.

I'd like to thank YesIamGhost, StickyBuds and TwitchReflex who all adjusted their builds / playstyles tonight in an effort to nurture the Oceanic PvP community.

I'd like to think it worked.
Every match went down to the wire.
It was pretty tense trying to get the win.

Consensus on teamspeak was that everyone had more fun than they had in ages.
Even StickyBuds and Twitch found it refreshing.
Ghost wasn't on teamspeak and I forgot to check before I logged off.

Chili... you can get better by being better.
I regularly beat / kill players with much higher ego than me.
But I still do poor against the guys that are actually better than me.
They smash me whether I'm using my 4K+ toon or my 600 ego toon.

I'm a little bored of Observatory and Waterfront. It's a shame we can't get FY full at those times.

With the episode replays mostly out of the way for people, there should be time for more PVP.

No one likes to be wiped away by the opposition, but the people who get that and don't come back are probably not going to like PVP generally in any case. PVP reminds you of a desire to better your gear/perks/playstyle and even if you get smashed, it should lead to self improvement.

glad to hear you guys had great matches last night. wish i could have joined (GF aggro the past couple of days).

yeah buddy. don't mean to poo-poo on your idea. i'm just skeptical that, aside from a select few people, others won't be taking up the "fair play" mantle. and yes, you can get better by getting better. i was just saying that i wished doing so would get you farther than it does in the current system. some of you guys have low-EGO alts (I haven't brought myself to do that yet) so it might be more clear to you folks how much gear/perks contribute towards your scores (versus your mains). maybe the gap isn't as large as i've hypothesized but at the same time, there's still the "skills" part that unskilled/new players need to improve on. too bad there's no "training ground/shooting range" or some form of measured PvP drills people can do to help them along the way.

another thought (and maybe I should be posting this on our clan forum)... it'd be fun to have a "theme of the day/week/whatever" contest whereby to participate you need to adhere to a stated build (like... decoy and pistols only, blur and non-SAW LMGs, etc.). take screenies of your best scores for the length of the contest. would be kinda fun to see people smashing with flare guns and disruptors :P

    That's a good idea.
Flare guns are boss Chili... well with extended mag they are!!

Well there is a difference from the ego and gear.
In the few games this morning, my main would mow down two guys, get shot from behind, then mow down the third guy.
Facing two opponents didn't faze me. Echelon contract completed in 2 rounds of observatory.
After completing Echelon contract, I changed to my alt. If i'm caught out of position and it's 2 v 1, I'm dead. If i'm cloaked, I will try not engage multiples together. Took about 5? rounds of observatory to complete Echelon contract.

I mean... it's because the difference is there I'm asking the strong players to switch up their loadout.
And there will be some players that don't switch up. To each their own.
But I'm pretty sure the players that did tone down can switch back and counter any players that are not interested in this initiative.

I just got sick of waiting and being disappointed in the lack of PvP. This is what I could do to change that situation. I don't know of anyone else that's taken the drastic step I have to PvP with an alt character, and that is totally fine, but if I want to champion this cause, well I have to lead the way. Hopefully it won't fall on it's face, but I tried. It's working so far.

If we can get the deathmatch games popping pretty good, we might be able to transition it to freightyard eventually. We're trying to build a community in a competitive environment that is based on killing each other. It'll take time but i'm hopefull. Man, imagine if we could get Shadow Wars to pop!!!

People generally expect to do bad when they start PvP. They will accept loses and bad score. But getting killed from cloak in one shot is more a frustrating experience than a learning / fun one. Even if you lose, actually getting into a firefight and emptying a clip is much more fun.

Some people will get smashed in PvP and accept it as a learning experience. Unfortunately, those kind of players are not that common. If we want to build this community, we have to tone down the pain to something acceptable to more players.

As the community grows, we can ramp it up.

I don't know what to say to this thread but i get killed by all different players in all different situations. I don't expect anyone to change their build or how they play to make me happy or less stressed, but I do have less respect, and more respect for certain play styles, not abilities. Many people sit back and let others get killed or do the damage and they appear and get the kill.

I have no issue with what people do just how they play, shows a lot about a persons character and team work... im just saying..

Well you're one of the stronger players Xoralis so yes, no player would be making changes for your benefit!!
    :P

And I totally respect your decision not to do the same for others.

I was just sick of having to wait in PvP queue for ages and figured this is something I could do within my sphere of influence to try and affect that situation. If it works, great; if not, I tried.

Though with the recent Ego perk changes, my suggestion might be moot now.
It's my own personal experience but it feels like average PvP ability and population has increased.
