    Defiance Season 1 Ratings Complete

    Defiance Ratings (source):

(Episode #, viewers in millions, Adults 18-49 rating)

    S01E01: 2.700 1.0
    S01E02: 2.400 0.8
    S01E03: 2.300 0.8
    S01E04: 2.150 0.8
    S01E05: 1.980 0.6
    S01E06: 1.947 0.8
    S01E07: 1.690 0.6
    S01E08: 1.908 0.6
    S01E09: 1.600 0.5
    S01E10: 1.665 0.5
    S01E11: 1.936 0.6
    S01E12: 2.168 0.7

Note: The Demo (second) number is the important one. One point (1.0) represents 1% of the total potential viewership (id est, 1% of the number of people who live in TV-owning households) for Adults in the 18-49 age range.

Due to Nielsen having issues, cable ratings for Monday were a bit late getting released.

The episodes with Schtama and Kenya are a 1.0 to me.

I'm wondering what this has to do with anything :/

even still, isn't 1% pretty good, considering there are 1,000+ TV channels?

These numbers are worse then other series being axed by far. We'll see if there is going to be a third season if the second will end on the screen at all?

    Really -_-

Syfy =/= The Big 5 networks of Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC... I can't remember the other one because I don't watch any channels below 730.

The link shown would be relevant but it shows the highest rated cancelled shows.

Nielsen ratings are crap. They only account for live TV views and next day DVR views and even then they focus more on whether or not the Nielsen families are watching the commercials. Families without a Nielsen box and anyone that watches the show online or through services like Amazon Prime and iTunes don't get counted.

You can read more here: "Why Nielsen Ratings Are Inaccurate, And Why They'll Stay That Way"

And to be fair, I should note that there will be some change coming in the Fall: "Nielsen Will Expand from Inaccurate TV Ratings to Inaccurate Streaming Ratings"

Those numbers are probably still better than anything SyFy has ever seen.

Also, some shows are cancelled for reasons that don't have that much to do with current ratings. Sometimes it's because a network wants to move their demographics in a different direction (CBS was long known as the network that appealed to what they started to believe was a geriatric age group). Or because it's just believed their lifespan is over. Or the cast is just done.

And networks sometimes gauge the future thinking that a series might be doing ok this season but is having some ups and downs-Housewives for example was a show that was just done to death, it was over. They might not see the next season as being promising and may well have more cost effective shows to take the place of something more expensive. Undercover Boss is less expensive than say CSI: Miami. People don't realize that often shows get canceled due to popularity sometimes. When the cast members' salaries become too much to pay based upon returns from advertising, shows do get dropped even if they are popular.

The shows listed as highest rated cancelled shows also were not necessarily ones that could be watched in as many different ways as Defiance can be. I watch on SyFy.com when the big tv is being used for other things, so I can't play the game. And the ratings are not that far below what Battlestar Galactica's were during season 4.

What the ratings say to me: People started out watching it on tv, then started not caring as much (but still watched it online/dvr/whatever), then came back to tv again for the finale.

Considering the show got progressively worse as the season went on (until the last couple episodes), the numbers aren't bad.
