    Tv show and the game

Is the show holding the game back that much. If there was no tv show would there be lots more content? Or are Trion just very slow at putting out content. I never played Rift so i dont no how quickly content came out for that. Also im not having a go at Trion.

I believe that it the reason the game is being held back is that they released in a state that could be called early beta at best, and have spent almost every day trying to get the code to 'gold' status...and have managed to get it to mid-beta. Mismanagement and poor coders are the problem.

It's been cited more than once that they are not holding anything back in the way of content due to the show itself. They have always planned the DLC schedule to occur when the first season ended. Now that it's ended the DLC will start to come out as evident with DLC #1 in a week or 2 from now.

As far as the show itself holding the game back - hardly. Playing one and watching the other really gives it that lil' extra + to my personal enjoyment. Especially the episode that had nolan ride out past the quarantine to pickup the cure for the Irath flu that the "Bay Area" sent over on an old @ssed ICBM missiles during our run at the infected seiges. Yea they don't have to wait for the game side of things in order to produce that episode but tying the two together makes my effort in curing the infected with muh Ground-Pounder that much more enjoyable. Without the show Rynn's appearance would have been just another mission arc addition. Because of the show it's way more enjoyable to get those lil' what-if's answered once she drove off at the end.

Meh, I dunno'. You may not see it that way and it's a shame, but what can ya' do?

Dunno if Trion have pro or poor coders, but what I know is that coding (and developing) needs time...
I agree with you that the game was unfinished when released, we know it's because of the show, so instead of holding the content back I say the show has hurry up the content

Well since they laid off most of the dev team (60 day mark has passed), you're not exactly going to be seeing significant resources poured into coding at the moment. It also doesnt help that its a horrible engine from what I've gathered to code in.

Given the constant reintroduction of bugs and the number of times they patched a fix did not actually fix the issue, I am leaning towards poor coders.

Yes, development needs time but when they force it out and it is more detriment then anything else, one has to call into question not just the skill level of the coders, but the management for not ensuring proper testing was done prior to release.

Indeed. The coders were more than likely given a rush job to finish patches and fixes and didn't get to correctly analyze and test said patches before they were sent live. Happens a lot and is sad because a rush job is a poor job. Happened to me on past projects.

Looking forward to more stable releases and a super bugged doc though either way.

Rift was amazingly polished at launch so like many others I suspect being tied to the TV show meant they had an immovable launch date for the game which they probably wish they could have pushed back. But they couldn't, the game wasn't really all it could have been and accordingly sales were probably nowhere near what they'd hoped. Layoffs etc. ensued.

I doubt the TV show is any way holding back DLC though.

I suspect much of the DLC work was complete pre the layoffs but each DLC is a major marketing opportunity for the game. It's news, opportunity for reviews etc. so they might want to fix a lot of the little problems before releasing the first one to make the most of that.

If anything, I'd say the show is holding itself back. The game is graphically sound, a thrilling take on the genre, and the story and scenery are much better than anything the show has. The show could take some pointers from Trion in how to make a more engaging sci-fi experience, though it would cost a lot more in production for the required terrain and costumes to simulate the effect. The psychopath in Island of Lost Soldiers would have been a great episode for the show, sending his hellbug minions to swarm and attack the town of Defiance while the cast of heroes attempts to drive them away.

Except that they said the DLC was going to be out after the 2nd client side patch. Doesn't really mesh with the DLC schedule being after the season ended.

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?
