Easter is a Christian holiday - not sure why we let non observant people celebrate religions they spend half their time ignoring or bashing.

None the less, the 'holiday' excuse for employees is nonsense and only further points out that when it comes crunch time, TRION won't even fork over the extra money for over time?

People have worked Christmas before too - GASP!

The reality is the game client isn't ready, and they WILL be working over the holiday - FIXING it.

Edge made a good point yesterday, in that the Defiance development team is not near transparent enough - like the RIFT team is. THIS will be the thing that keeps Defiance from being a great product.

Tuesday is only traditional release date in the states btw. There are more countries about in the world, for me technically it could be classed as being early as normal release date is friday for me ;p

Currently downloading the client now for preloading... Under my Trion account managed Defiance PC gave me the option to download the client. Also note that this client isnt label Beta.

Maybe having to download on launch day would also actually "stagger" the launch automatically.

I distinctly remember a queue in the beta already, imagine the queues when everyone log in exactly on the launch minute. Instead if everyone is still downloading, people will slowly trickle in. Some most likely will only play on the following weekend anyway....

As for the staff and holidays and all that, i seriously doubt Trion's staff is on holiday or taking some sort of break now, it is more likely like any other IT project, you work overtime before a launch. There's also a ton of things that needs to be done.

Who said they'd be getting paid for the overtime?

Also, the pre-load is available, so, it's done.

Also, the date has been set as the 2nd of April for a long time now, so why would they all of the sudden be expected to move it a few days earlier?

    Paying Overtime?

I'm going to ignore all the, truly, deeply, hilariously wacky stuff that was in the rest of this reply and point out your lack of knowledge about being a software developer...game or otherwise.

    * Trion's Defiance studio is based in California. Which is in America. And is therefore subject to American laws and customary practices.
    * In the US, you are classified (by Federal Labor Laws) as being in one of two broad categories for most jobs. "Exempt" and "Non-Exempt". This refers to the payment of overtime.
    * Software Developer jobs are traditionally "Exempt" positions - meaning they are paid a salary, and are not paid for overtime. Ever. Not for Holidays or Weekends or even just Late Into The Evening...

So Trion won't pay "overtime" because they don't have to on the one hand...and their employees don't expect to be paid overtime on the other.
