I think Dual Blades is very impressive and fun.

P.S. Edited, I do not want to breed demagoguery off topic.

As for sneaking up on someone with a glowing weapon... Have you not played Halo? Any game with Decoys and invisiblity has it set up where the weapons go invisible with you... There is no glow, you won't see or hear anything.

"personally, i would rather just be able to give my opponent a boot to the chest/groin. i always thought it was silly being able to draw a knife, slash someone, and put it away in half a second."

I don't think it is going to be like that, the Devs said it will be a main weapon, so once you take the melee weapon out I'm pretty sure it stays out just like your gun. They will most likely only put the sword away when you switch to your other weapon, otherwise they will just keep it out just like they do their guns. Speaking of which... Give us throwing daggers! Irisa throws them all the time, I want some too! >.>

I actually only use Submachine guns and Shotguns on Defiance, I love them. The sawed off Shotty's aren't that bad to me, I have one that is a purple colored. It is a one shot kill weapon if I shoot the enemy in the head; you mostly just have to know how to do your mods right. My highest leveled guns are all shotguns, and after that I think I have Submachine guns at like level 3 proficiency or something. The reason I use shotguns is because I play the same way I play on Halo, I smash up to my target, pull the trigger (get a critical hit), and if the target is still alive I quickly do a melee hit with my gun to kill them. Sometimes I switch the order and I'll punch them and while they stumble back I then quickly shoot them up close with a shotgun to kill them off. It's awesome!

All games have balancing issues, but Defiance is still new and still has a lot of time to fix any flaws they have with the game. If done correctly the melee weapons could make the game really fun. Again, check out Warframe because that game is awesome and did a really good job finding a good balance. I'm pretty sure Defiance will have a similar three hit combo attack for their melee weapons, and a charged attack that does double damage if you hold the button down.
That's like saying we should all have jedi powers because it worked in star wars, or we should have robots mimicing humans because it worked BSG.

You can't compare the two games, because warframe is about cybernetic ninjas and defiance is... well... I'm not entirely sure yet. an old guy who thinks he's still in his 20s hiring people to collect objects for him so he can be a hero?

Well, I was using Warframe as an example because they have charged melee weapons similar to Defiance with three hit melee attacks and a charged attack that does more damage, as well as invisibility and Decoys, and both games are third person shooters.

EDIT: To clarify a bit more- The argument was that melee weapons are obsolete, but I was saying that Warframe found a good balance to make both guns and swords useful. My point was that Defiance will probably have similar game mechanics because they have a lot of things in common. I edited my last post and went in a bit more detail if you want to take a look at it again.

And don't we kind of already have Jedi powers? We can cloak ourselves (Jedi mind trick), run super fast (force speed), increase our damage (force rage), create holographic decoys (another form of Mind trick), and we even have an ability to slowly recharge our life (force heal).
Heck, all we need is force push and pull and we're all set.

And didn't the indogenes already have Alien/robot things mimicing humans? Wasn't that what the Mayor and the lost Astronaut were doing in the TV show? Reminded me a lot of Terminator Salvation. So... yeah...

This is my last post because I don't have as much time to post as I used to, and I think I've made all of my points from my previous posts. Good day! :3

I don't know if anyone else saw this, so I thought to share it here. I'm sure someone else has posted this, but this is the first time I've seen it...

It shows how the Charged blades will work in the game and he also shows the Castithans!
The attacks are closer to Warframe than I thought, it even has the jumping AOE blast attack.

I just wanted to share because I thought it was cool. I'm sure the reason the DLC was delayed was to fix balancing issues.

Now they just need to add Ops idea of dual charged blades. *drools*

Um ok, I have to say that I was extremely surprised to NOT see a blade weapon (glowing or not) in this game. Taking into account the storyline & the new Earth with stuff crashing everywhere...... hello I'd be like "Ronan Dex", pulling out my homemade knives with Hellbug bone handles from everywhere. BTW, what bout Irisha........everything time we turn around she's throwing something in the TV show....idk just my thoughts, ya know....

i would like to see other melee weapons like axes or maces...you could probably keep the same animation, just have the weapon look different than a sword

I agree with you though that they are leaning more towards overpowered because as I said, they are going to be very close to Halo Energy swords (especially if you combo them with EGO skills). The DEVs already announced that they will be main weapons and not just a side weapon, so I don't think it is going to be like COD or BF3, I think it will be more like.... uhhh.... Oh I know maybe like Battlefront 2's Jedi. I bet they will do a simple preset combo, and maybe the charge attack will be a lunging maneuver with a Crit damage boost. Oh, or another game I just thought of is Gunz the dual (the first one) how their melee weapons were.

I doubt they will add the ability to block bullets, etc.

Balancing dual blades will be a challenge, but if they can get it to work I bet it will be crazy good fun. Even if they don't do dual wielding I am still just happy that they are adding charged blades.

EDIT: One more thing, doesn't the main bad guy already have a charged sword in this game??????
Yes Nim uses a charge blade, he killed quite a few people with one aswell. Nim is deadly with a charge blade.

Cloaking is a jedi power, a group within the order used the force to cloak themselves it didn't rely on weak minds though.
