Before you unplug your PS3 on Hard Freeze!!!

I posted this in another thread but I think it was deleted. I wanted to share a trick for doing a hard reset on the PS3 consoles that doesn't involve unplugging the console while powered. I know for a fact this works on the newer consoles, and I'm not sure about the older consoles. I have had my fair share of hard freezes while playing defiance and this has worked each and every time. From what I am told, this is a fail safe that Sony has in their consoles to do an emergency power down during a hard freeze.

When my friend told me about this, I was actually a little offended because it is so obvious. All you have to do is hold down the console's power button and count to 40. Not 10, not 20, not 30, but 40 seconds. Most people that don't know about this (including myself at one time) have obviously tried this before, but they aren't holding the button down long enough. Before you tell me that you have already tried this and it doesn't work, please try again, only next time really count to 40. I don't want to see any of my fellow gamers have their consoles smoked by the Notorious Defiance Hard Freeze.

    Wow

I have not had a freeze problem but to mine I have been on the phone with Sony for hours and have talked to like 7 or 9 people and out of them all 1 of them said something like you said. When going through a list of troubleshoot problem they had me hold it down for the first beep then keep holding till the second beep and did not work

Besides him on saying that no one else said that but even him had me do it for like 15 seconds or so omg now I must go unpackage my ps3 and try your idea. OMG I hope this works

Well thanks on the tip but now I must go box it back up and mail it out tomorrow to Sony maintenance

On the bright side I guess Sony talked me into a 59.99 24 month protection plan so I guess ya to that

I'm really sorry to hear about your ps3. Your problem sounded a little different than what I was talking about. I apologize for not being more specific in the original post. This trick I posted is to be used when the console freezes while playing defiance, which happens very often and to many other defiance players. Usually what happens is the screen freezes while playing, (this usually happens at arkfalls when there is a lot of explosions). The controller is useless after this and you can't exit the game. A lot of players are resorting to unplugging the ps3 in order to restart the system so they can get back into the game. However, doing that could possibly cause some catastrophic dmg to the console itself. I posted this trick so people know they can manually power down the console (hard reset) before resorting to unplugging the ps3 while the HDD light is on.

Good luck and I wish you a speedy delivery on your replacement ps3

I just push the button once and it shuts down! Dont have to do anything else... Holding the power button until it bleeps several times just puts it in serivce mode

Yes you are correct, but there are also times where the console freezes and pushing the button once does absolutely nothing. That is why many people have been unplugging their consoles to get the power off during a hard freeze.

The funny thing is, the scrapper mission at the bath house in San Fran made me laugh because of Short Circuit... "Yes, disassemble!" was a great name for a mission LOL

Ill try that next time. Usually I eject the disc and a couple minutes later it restarts itself.
