    ****... why...
Not really, all I said was that you shouldn't be able to max your EGO thing out on one character. That would be boring. But yeah, I'm saying you shouldn't be able to just change your character that is focused all on some specific things to then specific to other things. Unless you have lots of Scrip to burn in doing so.
In-game character name: ''Kurono Miyuki'', The red-ish Irathient.

specifically the question: Are there classes?

I for one do not like the idea of classes, reminds me too much of the holy trinity class system which to me = time wasted waiting for xyz class to show up to do stuff.

We kinda of do have a class system in place, you can only really have a maximum of 7 perks active plus one power. Even if you unlock the whole bunch you still have to make a choice over what to use and when.

The advantage of not having a class system comes back to my argument about time wasting. One reason I don't play eq/wow clones is if you don't have access to a certain required class to do something it often ment you couldn't do whatever you had planned. That too me is time wasted, which is much more important in a subscription based game as your value for money goes down the longer you spend waiting to do something.

The ego system as it stands is probably the one big advantage it has over many many other MMO games, and it's not easy to fit a holy trinity class system into a shooter anyway. Many of the people I know who have played MMOs as often as I do are sick and tired of a trinity class system MMO.

I remember even with Star Trek Online initially the developers said every captain will be able to obtain all the skills available in the skill tree. When they went back on their word, it had reprecusions, first and foremost was alienation of the players who expected to be able to get every skill thus they stopped believing anything the development team said about features. One reason why beta NDAs exist because so much can change and creates issues of distrust between the playerbase and development team. A fair few of those players actually quit and never came back, because of past experience with the likes of other developers going back on their word. A case of "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me".

MMO's have been around long enough that one single sign of a developer going back on your word, means you lose potential costumers permanently never to return

I personally like the whole no class thing and using a certain weapon to level that weapon type. Reminds me of SAO

Actually there is a pursuit asking for maxing out your character. You don't need to respec at all since eventually you'll have all powers and all perks.

Edit : @Skydive it's one power and 9 perks PER loadout so you can swap easily

agreed, hackers are both stupid and can ruin a game for sure...hackers have ruined some of my fav games, CoD, sniper elite v2, etc, i really do hope they implement some anti-hacking software to make the game fair and enjoyable

TLDR: I hope the cap allows players to unlock all (or at least nearly all) of the ego tree.

It's not lazy. Some people just have other things to do with their life than to spend another 1000 hours dumping time into a full second playthrough to max another toon (please not I'm not trying to imply that you do this or even that it's a bad thing, I just want to point out that most people don't have that kind of time). I want to be able to mix and match loadouts to see what works in what situations, and I don't want to have to max more than one character to do that. On top of that, I particularly want to experience this game through one character since content will change with the show, and I want to have a character that is part of the entire legacy instead of getting bored of that toon and deciding to make a new one.

Personally, I find limiting levels to be a cheap and unsatisfying way to extend replay value so people keep paying money. Essentially, it's as if the devs are saying to the player, "we couldn't make the endgame content interesting enough to keep you engaged long term, so instead, we'll just make you play it again if you want to unlock the stuff you want to make a new build." If players decide that on their own because they enjoyed the content the first time, that's great. But if a game can't keep players engaged long term without forcing them to build a new character, I think it has failed as a game, especially as a shooter.

Some games like Diablo (I and II in particular) are all about finding a uniquely effective way to spec your character and use level caps to force choices that make your character unique. For some games that is the game, and I tend to put them down quickly because I get tired of playing the same story 100's of times and running the same bosses 1000's of times just so I can experiment with different abilities to see what I like before I make specific builds.

So, I, for one, hope that Defiance allow players to fully upgrade their ego grid. Even if it does every player will still have unique loadouts to suit their playing preferences.

    Not FPS
But I am sure they have security in place

Respec will allow any one toon to experience all the perks, just not all at the same time. But man.... this things sposda be an mmo, all the ones i played take at least a month to max out a char casually, and thats BEFORE new lev caps, content, expanded maps and such are introduced, maybe defiance is taking a different route and treating this more as fps than mmo and allowing everything to be done within 30 something hours of gameplay, I really hope thats not the case, but only time will tell.
30 something hours of time i guess.

If endgame just revolves around PVP then even more ppl are gonna be calling it a planetside ripoff.

during the livestream i heard sledge and the blonde chick say that at launch the ego cap will be 5,000. but one did say that they will be increasing that number for new content later in the games lifespan....
