It seems like making any change to your Trion account flags the account as authorised so you can patch. There have been reports of people that changes the newsletter subscription and then were able to patch. I suspect this is actually a bug we have found rather than an official method......
If you have your code and your account is activated you are in the same boat as the digital downloads. Once your account is activated to your account key you should get the download client button afaik, but if you have the disks in hand why would you need that anyway?
Disks are not being treated like 3rd class citizens. You sit down, put disks into your comp take xxx amount of time to instal and woosh your off, xxxx number of thousands of people try to download and install from the same server pools and it's a massive strain on the systems not to mention the added CS tickets being launched because of it.
It's about as unfair as retailers sending out disks early to reduce the risk of a late delivery, to say DD installing the game is unfair. Look at the headaches there already is over the last 2 days... if this had waited till launch omg...
Less strain on the staff for launch day = more focus on the actual game and server stability.
Unfortunately, usually most PC downloads using disks just get you to the installer and from there you STILL have to download the patches. We're wanting to be able to have everything ready to play just like everyone else, right when the servers open (or at least after we get our games from our respective Third Party vendors and get back home to put in our keys).
Many games I've played and beta tested will use the pre-order key to allow you to download the game itself and even has a leeway period to play before you have to put in the actual game key (1-3 days) so everyone can start right when the game becomes available. Guessing this isn't going to happen here.
Anyway, the point is those that paid Third Party vendors that meet street date requirements (ie. do it the right way) for hard copy versions of the game wherein the keycode is packaged, will not be able to start when those that jumped the gun and violated street date will...and when those who ordered digital copies will. Unless they make some kind of concession for those who paid for hard copies and don't get them till street date on April 2nd, those that purchased hard copies will be disadvantaged.
Here is a new twist... I signed up @ Steam for the deluxe version, and received the pre-order Key and the deluxe Key. I then registered them both @ Trion and downloaded the Defiance download link page. When I tried either key logging in, it said that my download information had failed. Even though it was correct. When I then tried without entering either key in the authorization slot (just id and pass) I then was able to start the patch update (which is currently downloading as I type this on the iMac)... Weird....;|
The game is 15gb (system req) and the game releases Monday night. This game is going to take about 6 hours to download at best. When can we actually expect to start downloading this game before release?
password change didn't help me at least, and the helpful live chat just said to wait as it's a known problem that'll be fixed 'soon'...
"Here's the plan: We go in, I start hitting people hard in the face, see where it takes us."
Here is another question which Im sure I missed... Since I bought from Steam and this is listed in Steam as a valid game in Steam, what is the advantage or result in downloading this game from Trion outside of Steams client???? Am I wasting my time in downloading the patches outside of Steam( where I plan to actually play the game)? Or will this somehow all work within the Steam client? Sorry.... Im kinda lost as to why we have 2 different directions to proceed here....
