No, digital download got 2 keys. One preorder key depending on the retailer and one cd key for the retail game.

That depends on the retailer. Most are only supplying a single key that seems to combine both elements.

After installing, it's 10.4 gigs, requires like 2 gb to actually install it, which is not unusual for a game to require more space to unpack and then install it piece by piece.

Actually it requires 23 GB to install, which is pretty insane. They really need to change the their requirements listing (which is currently listed as 15 GB) because the game will not allow you to install it without having ~23 GB of space free. It doesn't matter if it's only 10 GB at the end if you can't get that far without having 23 GB free. What's worse, is it doesn't even recognize the data it has downloaded already. So, if you download 9 out of the 10 GB of data and pause the process and then restart the launcher later on, it will insist you have 23 GB free to continue to finish downloading that last remaining gigabyte.

I hope it doesn't pull that for later patches.

Not really!

Think about it you may have many thousands of people wanting to download the game.
Each download takes 10-12Gb
Multiply that with the number of people wanting to download and you get a really big download.

Now they only have a certain bandwidth to give everyone a slice of so they do that in batches of a few hundred or so every hour.

Some will have fast download speeds others will be slower, but they give every customer the best speed possible to download it quickly.

If they let everyone download it at the same time you'd be lucky to get a few Kbs (if it does not DDOS the servers in the first place!)

So relax! Go outside!
Take in the fresh air, the sunshine or rain sleet or snow!

Life is too shorty to worry about whether you get to play the game the split second the server goes live or a few hours later!

If their servers can't handle all the digital orders downloading around the same period of time, how will they handle the load when they release content updates or patches measured in gigabytes (pretty common for today's MMO)? Especially when, at that point, you'll have not only your digital customers, but your brick and mortar retail customers hitting the patch servers as well?

As for something else causing access problems, I suggest anyone who has a digital order and can't obtain access despite the tricks of changing their password / newsletter subscription to really work on getting help from support. I kept getting the whole "wait in lives, doing it in waves" run around and begged the CSR to look deeper, and (no surprise) they found something else wrong with my account that was causing the problem. It was going to prevent me from playing even when the servers went live. Thankfully I have it straightened out now, and thank you to the CSR who was willing to take the time to dig deeper.

Assuming something will work itself out just by waiting is not the best move.

Go to your Trion account page, Select Manage Games, then Defiance (not Defiance Beta)... you should then be able to download the client form the page that takes you to.

I would like to know whats going on with the people that pre ordered from steam. It still says the game wont unlock for 22 hours and that is well past the server opening, not to mention this early install. If Steam is not going to open up in time for all this, i would really like to know so i can cancel my pre order from them and just get it through TRION.

I did this after the last beta. the client is not the game itself.

3. Subscribed to the newsletter

What else is someone suppose to do? Am I suppose to understand that I should've never preordered this game from Amazon because only digital would be able to download the game? This hardly makes any sense. Trion allowed people to download and access RIFT with pre-order codes alone. Have they changed their policy?
