Most people aren't as OCD as I am and would have quit after the thing failed the 5th, 6th, or 7th time. They could be looking at huge, negative publicity right as the game goes live. That is the last thing Trion is going to want to deal with when they are hoping positive, word of mouth will help them build a decent player base right at launch.

Bumping. Some people still seem to be struggling with this issue and the thread got buried.
I just tried this. First I created a Defiance folder in my Steamapps folder, then downloaded and ran the installer from Trion's website and put the location for the folder I created into the installation path field. It installed and I ran the patcher and it's doing it's thing. At my connect speed it's going to take an hour and a half to finish.
I'm doing the STEAM version and I want to make sure i'm doing this right.

I also downloaded the client available and fully updated it to the point I can get to the menu and after it attempts to connect it says the Service is Not Available at this time and gives me the options to Try Again or Quit.
Is there anything else I need to do before I am able to play Defiance on Tuesday? Or am I essentially ready?
Was curious if I was suppose to have it downloaded on STEAM but it's not available yet.
Will the client version from the site work even if I bought it through steam?
Thanks for this! I had to create the Defiance folder for myself and only had two files to copy, but I'm currently patching with 6-8 hours left. Not sure if the slowness is due to the servers or my 20th century internet out here in the sticks. :/ Glad to be starting early in either case.

If you purchased the game on Steam, they should have given you a game code. You can find this code by clicking on Defiance in Steam, and on the right side there should be a link that says "CD Key".
Click that link, and it should pull up your game code. You can then enter this code into the Apply Codes box on your account at www.defiance.com, and then your upgrade will be complete!

There's no option to let me pre-install the game on steam at all. So I should basically just download from the website and place it in a new Defiance folder under "steamapps>common" then, even though there's nothing there?
That's what I did. Speed has picked up as I'm currently 3 hours in with 2 hours left. Hoping Steam will figure it out once the "Play" button goes live. Worst case scenario I figure that I'll be good to go at launch and reinstall later if necessary for time played, etc. to work.
