I think i found a solution.
You need to 'System Cache'
To do this, go to home>Settings>System>Storage
Press Y on the storage used with Defiance then press A on Clear System Cache.
Retry the patch on Defiance.
This might not work for everyone - Good luck!

Check xbox live status..seems this is a Microsoft issue. Has been since this morning..

It is not xbox live this has been an ongoing and ongoing issue.
For some people clearing the system cache has helped.. Others have deleted all the patches and redownloaded and is had helped others have done both or one or a myriad of other things for it to still not work. I was one f those I just had to put my game away for a bit and when I came back something had changed in the game or server side and it allowed patching to continue.
It is a huge pain having large patches that must be applied before playing. It would help to know how large the patch you are downloading is and I hope they introduce that feature soon!
