You wanna know something. Patches do break things in every game that is patched. Because they are no substitute for the initial programming. A game dev for another game stated that bug fixes often break more than they fix so devs just often decide that some things won't get patched.
And you know who's really to blame for all of this? We are. We get angry when games are not released "on time" because we think we know how long it should take for games to be ready. And we don't get mad about games made by the other big companies that set the timetables and that release their games too early when they should be in beta testing at best.
I've participated in private beta testing (not for this game) and I can tell you that ALL games are released before they're ready. I know that things complained about in beta don't get fixed and end up in the consumer version. I also know that it's the big name companies that set the trend for all of this. And their games should be darn near perfect by now, especially when they're basically releasing the same freaking game with a new look, year after year.
But we don't hold their feet to the fire. Someone on here said "but people do complain in their forums, too". So what? Does anyone actually think that any company is going to change its business model because of some complaints they can chalk up to a vocal minority? In fact, they don't. Big name devs said in an article (from interviews) that the forums basically mean nothing because we still buy their games. We buy them by the millions. They only care when we stop giving them money.
I've used CoD games as an example. Black Ops 2 was a pile of crap. The multiplayer when the game was released was not playable for a lot of the people that got the game. It wasn't due to busy servers which is always the claim made by the devs and some "fans". The game also caused consoles to freeze, had this wonderful hidden feature of resetting all progress at times, and was plagued by lag and created lag-CoD games all have this lag used to help even out bad and good connection speeds. And matches would fail sometimes 4 or more times, so the match would reset. And that's not even talking about just how bland some of the maps were and how idiotic the MP audio (voice over) and quality was. But despite all the complaints and there were and still are, and all the rage quitting (every match I played featured numerous people rage quitting-more than any CoD game I've ever played), people are already excited for the next CoD.
If we are ever to change how things are done in gaming then we need to stop buying broken games but that includes and has to really start especially with the big companies like EA, Bethesda, Activision (IW and Treyarch), and the rest. But we won't. They'll sell millions on release day and because we basically like some of the game (I love Bethesda games but they're all terribly bugged), we'll never do anything to fix this situation. Too few of us ever do anything to try and get games fixed. Trion as a smaller company can't afford us to walk away so they try to fix things. The big companies can afford to lose those players that walk away, so they write it off on their taxes but they sell millions of copies of their games and WE STILL BUY broken games.
The problem also is that some people want everyone to be as unhappy as they are. I tend to think this is their life's problem and not about any one game. They say they hate this game, don't play it, and think others should drop it too (they want it to fail). So they continually post crap. Well if there's nothing worth being here for-they hate the game, don't want or care if it's gets patches to fix it or DLC-why are they still here? Just to be nasty is all.
That is in contrast with people who want the game to be better, get patches, and want the DLC. The people having problems with the game need to be heard and need help. The people that want the DLC now and wish it had been released with the game or before the game was released are like those who demand games get released before they're ready. And that brings us back to the original problem. Us. People get just as mad at devs for "delaying" game release dates as they do over the DLC. We're a bunch of spoiled brats used to getting things now. Not when they're ready.
