Probably because the consoles couldn't handle it, so because they can't have it, no one can. They already have issues with rendering large groups, which is why they removed the secondary weapon showing on the character, and why most arkfalls, etc.. with large groups of people look like everyone is cloned.

Can you imagine the QQ Tsunami™ that would have flooded the boards if PC players got something like that, and the consoles players didn't? The PC can't even get a decent UI and chat box, much less something as complicated as flying vehicles.

I think the developers couldn't handle it, they wanted horses but they couldn't get them to work with the way they designed the game.

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

That doesn't surprise me. They didn't do a good job with horses in Rift either.

Doesn't explain how the mutants get away with it in their helicopters though. I guess the Dev team forgot about that when they gave us that line about the ark belt and flying being too dangerous now. Oopsie!
Also like to point out that we flew into the bay area right at the start on a 'strato carrier'.

    It did blow though...

Cut scene at the start looked like it was armoured better than some forts, and was flying quite low to the ground. Combination of flying lower than the harmful radiation, and having so much physical protection that debris like razor rain would be an inconvenience rather than fatal.

They've also probably overstated the risks ("Anything over 400 feet is pure suicide") but the statistical probability is that anyone that tries to regularly fly will encounter a fatal problem pretty quickly. Say on average any flight between major centers had a 10% chance of fatality. 1/10 chance of dying is NOT something that most people would be comfortable with...And if you had to replace your aircraft (and pilots) every 10 flights...not commercially viable.

Nope, that was SyFy's call on the aircraft, not Trion. Syfy didn't want to deal with the costs of flying machines in making the show, so they told Trion no flying machines. SyFy wanted horses (I guess for the Wild West feel?) and Trion said no, that makes you too much a target. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...-with-defiance

Honestly, it really wouldn't fit into the world. With the terraforming, we've not seen any native large mammals (cows, horses, sheep, pigs) in either part of the world. Second, many bovine diseases can and do affect equines. So, whatever in the terraforming event that killed the cows, most likely would have killed the horses anyway.
