Gaming Acronyms (new to MMOs in general

Hey everyone, forgive the noob question but as I've been checking out the awesome posts (mostly hah) during the downtime before launch, I've come across some of the acronyms that I'm not familiar with.

With Defiance being the 1st ever MMO I'm wanting to try (LOVE the idea of tv show and game working together), especially after the beta (even though I sucked at first), I'm pretty new to the meanings. What are some of the commons things you guys use and what do they mean? Yes, feel free to look down upon me for a bit!

BMG (big machine gun?? )
LMG (light machine gun?)
PvE (player vs environment)
PvP (player vs player)
and so on
