This is better. This way you aren't entirely basing your gameplay on whether or not you get loot. Every time you run a group, you're interested in more than just getting an upgrade, you're interested in accomplishing your mission, unlocking a new passive trait, etc.

Less loot whoring equates to a better team dynamic. Less loot scaling equates to a better PVP experience.

I would be pissed if they change this ever. I want the worst gun in the game to be at worst 50% as effective as the best of the same type (though perhaps that't not true in this case, the closer to that the better).

Lets see how it turns out in this game. GW did the same, but NCsoft gave up on that with the GW2 update.

I certainly hope it doesn't happen, because it only hurts them in the long run. There are some workarounds to be sure, but unless kept in check it will only alienate new players and future players if they decide to return after a time of absence. NCsoft kinda either couldn't afford to keep doing it or buckled under pressure with that update. No offence to them, They will have to be careful from now on.

It was interesting to follow those first months in GW2. So highly anticipated game, with so many revolutionary promises (in manifesto) and their first update broke one of the most important features.

More and more players demand skill based games and gaming companies are trying to follow this growing demand. But among those players, there are only rare individuals that are prepared to play the game where little changes, for a long time. in GW2, there were many players that managed to get to max level in few weeks. And faced with only cosmetic changes began to drop out of the game faster then anyone imagined to happen so quick after release.

Defiance is a different game, but makes some similar promises. Does it face the same future? I don't think so. Gw2 was made to be the game to play for years. I see Defiance more of an e-sport type of a game. Play for few weeks, drop out, wait for next DLC. Or play with your buddies in co-op team against others or in numerous challenges.

We can see that there are some changes that will happen with our weapons or our handling of them. It looks like there is more than beta led us to believe and that is good. We will just have to wait and see if it's enough.

incase anyones still interesting ill see if i can shed some light on this,

for a start off yes there is progression with stats going from 1 to 1000 (the weapon you have doesnt progress the loot you pick up does)

but this progression is very very very slight, infact the majority of progression comes in variation rather then stat strength. ie more mods slots, different bonus.

but the most important thing is weapons come in different flavours, if you pick up 2 bolt action XY snipers, they will both have the same stats (with possibly different elemental effects, bonus, prefitted mod slots.) how ever there is a bolt action XY there is a YX with slightly faster reload but less dmg, then there is bolt action TG with higher mag and less recoil. then you might find bolt action AA with splash dmg.
