AS for traveling run drive and fast travel by clicking way points.
Surely enemies get increasingly harder to kill? More HP, damage output, abilities, stuff like that? If not that would mean the game starts easy and only gets easier...

I don't believe the required exp grows as you progress however that could have only been for the beta, who knows. Traveling is either driving on you vehicle or clicking blue fast travel nodes on your map to quickly get you place to place, of course you'll have to unlock those first.
Don't be insulted because i don't wanna explain myself, i was probably joking anyway.

Enemies do get harder the further away from the starting point you get.
You sorta gain lvls, as explained, everything you do contributes. Did or do you play Secret World? They both have a similar "lvling" system. Get the 10 ego per lvl etc.

Is XP purely a route to earning EGO levels, which in turn unlock points to spend on EGO perks and powers?
There is no visible change to your health bar, you will always have 10 bars. In earlier betas one bar represented 250 health, now you always have 10 bars of health. Some perks can give you additional health. XP is mostly used towards unlocking more perks.

As for weapon damage and the like, every time you level up a weapon type you gain a slight boost. For example you may gain +2% damage, or reduced recoil. Every time you level up that weapon skill you add another bonus to that weapon type.

Yes enemies do get more difficult to kill. Some may have more health, some may have shields you need to destroy first. As far as I know weapons don't scale drastically as far as damage so it's not like you can grab a 4000 ego gun go back to the starting area and one shot everything. But some of the devs have said that the progression we saw in beta isn't the same as what will be in the final game. So who knows, it may change.

Yes and no. Remember this was limited to one tiny section of the overall map.
But still, there were at least two very tough arkfall that I ran into over the weekend.
As for getting harder. The first time you run into the NPC with that bazooka or those grenade tossing mutants - you realize they got to drop like right now and you learn to improve your roll technique. Then you work your way to the prison and there are Squads of bazooka NPC. It was a valid Oh Crap moment.

Thanks for the reply. It does look like everything is really focused into EGO skills / perks / combinations of them and that XP is just a means to levelling it up alongside the bonuses from pursuits and quests.

I had noticed the improvement in weapons based on skill using weapons within that class. I had also seen the individual progress bars each weapon had - that figure seemed to be damage inflicted with it as I did a few tests headshotting enemies and checking the stat between each kill. There was a note that once a weapons was mastered you would stop earning weapon XP with it, though you could still earn normal XP with it - I guess the wording of some of the tool tips aided to my confusion.

    That's good to hear.

I took a chance with this game. I had not heard a single thing about it and then just a few days ago saw it pop-up on steam. Saw it was an MMOFPS(TPS) and pre-ordered right away, plus I was on the fence about Rift and saw this included that.

I've been wanting this type of game for a long time, the last one I played was fake, sure you had guns and pointed at the enemy but in the end it was still rolling dice for hit/miss/dmg. Don't even remember the name. Next up was Planetside 2 but I wanted PvE not 100% PvP.

Going in with very little idea of what to expect. Excited!
